Irving's Las Colinas
UGH. i've had to rewrite this entire post three times because I keep on clicking on a link that takes me somewhere else, and it gets erased. So. I'm not going to write "captions" for the pictures, save one. Correction, save.. err.. 5.
This is Irving's Las Colinas. An area chockful of money, canals, landscaping, and ducks. Lots and lots.. of ducks. 1: 2: 3: 4: Boat ties! Too bad no one uses them. 5: 6: 7: 8: 9: 10: 11: 12: 13: Looks kinda like a Post Development.. but.. it isn't. 14: 15: 16: Quack quack quack quack quack quack quack quack.. heh. See? Lots of ducks. 17: The famous Mustangs of Las Colinas.. The building two pictures before this and two pictures after this is where the Mustangs are located.. 18: No, this building is not falling over. I am. 19: The yet-to-be developed northern end of Lake Lavon. 20: ![]()

Kinda related to the entire 'canal' bit.. is Fort Worth still going to pull part of the Trinity River into downtown and make their own canal thing? Is this feasible at all for Dallas..? Or is there some kind of creek that can rerouted (maybe the one that goes through the area near Industrial Blvd.) into southern downtown to kind of make an area suitable for such developments that are seen along the Riverwalk in San Antonio? It would be a great catalyst for development near the Cedars.. and as that area might get completely rebuilt now that the Cowboys may be coming to the area, it seems like a good idea to go ahead and make room for an element in downtown similar to the river in Chicago and the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

I don't think FW has ever had the intention to pull the river into downtown via canals. The elevation difference between the river and the bluff on which downtown sits keeps it from being feasible. They do have plans to create a town lake on the Trinity and develop the riverfront. Pier One and Radio Shack are sort of the first step in that direction.

Actually it is...it was the Post Shores. I actually moved there when I turned 18 and it was a great development, just hated Post management.

Lake Carolyn, hehe.
Did you walk down the Canal in the more 'urban' part of the urban center? |

It's Lake Carolyn. The Cowboys site is on the extreme north end of.
The Wendy's is on the main part of the canal, behind the residential tower(The Verona twin). The look of the canal there is very impressive and creates a dense corridor. |

I thought the cowboys development was away from the urban center, closer to the studios, but closer still to where 161 and 635 meet?

The Cowboys site was on the northern shore of Lake Carolyn between the Lake and Exxon-Mobil as was Irving's Convention Center and hotel site.

Really? Well, that would be about as sweet as the possible Industrial site then. |

yeah, it was pretty sweet. Basically what you see on their site, but rotated 180 degrees with DART running right through it. Cowboys or not, it will be great. Definitely Superbowl worthy though

Those pictures look like something out of "28 Days Later" when everyone in England was infected with a virus and London was deserted.

They are trying to correct that. Fires don't help. I think it'll be lively before downtown Dallas.

I think thats from the inception of the area when they had something called Canal Days or something like that during the summer. It was a street fair of sorts with merchants and things to actually attract people I believe. No later than the mid 1980's. I tried once to go to what I thought was a restaurant on the canal right below the clock tower area. It has chairs setup in a semi fine dining arrangement, a sign, a phone number and everything. It was closed. I have seen people use it but have yet to find a time when its actually open. Is it just for banquet use? I know I'm one of the few people on the forum that used to live in the Las Colinas CBD but I didn't know if anyone else had regular experience with the area. If there any people in here that are restaurant operators, that area is begging for a few new bar and grill concepts on the canal. The Texas Bar and Grill (the only one there) is pretty busy after work most days and stays open til 2am on friday and saturday with pretty consistant business. With the growth of apartments in that CBD of Las Colinas it seems like the right time. The key to the success will be advertising its exsitance but you have a few meet a greets sponsered by the local apartments and you should be set. Alcohol sales are the key, the food only places around there do not last from what I saw living there. There's no money in food sales. |
