New York's Union Square - Pedestrian Activity

Check out this video I just shot about an hour ago with my camera-phone in New York. Notice the pedestrian activity outside. Also, notice how packed the Starbucks is. Hopefully, one day soon, Dallas will have spots with similar amounts of activity.

I live a block east of union square. There's been a lot of scandal at that Starbucks -- Rats have been infesting the place, and they frequently find their bags of food with holes in them and some of the food eaten. What isn't eaten, they put on the shelves for customers to buy and eat. From those same rat infested bags! Have you been to 71 Irving, MBaller? some of the best coffee on manhattan, IMO, and just a few blocks away from that Starbucks.

Thanks for the info. concerning the rats. I didn't know. I go there just about every other day. . .mostly for the internet access (T-Mobile Hotspot). Have you heard any bad reports about the Starbucks on the other side of Union Square (accross from Virgin)?

btw/ Thanks for the info on 71 Irving. I think I'll check it out today.

I'm not sure if it's both of the Starbucks locations or just one - on second thought, the rat-infested one may have been the one across from Virgin. Though that discovery has made me pretty untrusting of all Starbucks locations, but as you say, the Wifi is a great plus.

msutton - where do you live? I just moved into Stuy Town last week, right at 14th & Ave A... right down the street it sounds like...

If you have any restaurant/bar/anything suggestions, throw them my way! I don't have a clue where to eat around here... too many choices i suppose...

I'm at 14th and 3rd. Great part of town. My favorite bar around here is a little Irish pub on 14th near 1st Ave, O'Hanolyn's or O'Hanoley's or someting of that nature. The bartender is great, they've got a half dozen or more flat screens behind the bar, a great darts room, and a generally good crowd. For food, Friendhouse on 3rd Ave. at 12th, I think, has the best General Tso's in the city. But it's kind of a ghost town, most people just have them deliver. On Broadway just south of Union Square is The Chocolate Man, or something like that: go there for breakfast. It's expensive, but well worth it. There's a great, great sushi place at 2nd Ave. and 12th St., the southeast corner, but I can't remember its name. It's hard to go wrong with most anything in this area, though, so I'd say just start experimenting. As I think of other favorite places I'll post them for you.

I didn't realize I was dealing with the authorities. You have impeccable research skills, though.

I, of course, have never consumed alcoholic beverages--except in the UK and Mexico--but I visit these establishments to expand my mind as an actor and a human, to take in those parts of the world from which big brother would keep me. But I hope that none of you would think that I should ever go so far as to break a law of our great nation! All lawbreaking infidels should be smitten with crabs.
