ALASKA!
The Final Frontier
ALASKA... where do I begin.... By far my favorite state, and quite possibly my most favorite place on earth. It all started w/PBS and a few documentaries sometime ago. I discovered that it is arguably the most beautiful, and fascinating place on the planet. I came into a little cash a few years back when our house sold, and was all but packed & headed north for Alaska.. If it weren't for my two cats I'd probably be there today.. I just couldn't bring myself to drug them, or stick them on the underside of a plane.. nor could I stand the thought of a 5000+ mile road trip w/them.. no flippin' way... I thought about a ferry/ship as well.. no joy there either... NO PETS... Plus, due to the long winters in AK most apt's do not allow pets.. With the odds stacked against me I folded, and just moved to expo park.. Does it bother me?..yes.. but there's always tomorrow... I'd love to move to NY for a few years, and then eventually retire in AK while I'm still young, but things never go according to plan... so we'll just have to take it as it comes, and play it by ear..
Through the years I've collected an absolutely obscene amount of pics from this great state.. This will be the first thread in a series featuring Alaska that I'd like to share with you guys.. I'll try to include some fun facts in each thread... I hope you enjoy!

Alright here are few. Just a warning though, these suck in comparison with the other photos in this thread. Reason being is we had our camera stolen halfway threw the trip, so we lost half the photos. The first set were taken by a Kodak disposable from my cousin while the other half was taken by our new Canon bought at the Skagway Radioshack.

How did I miss this Alaska thread? Great pictures (although the one with the crowds of fishermen needs some bears to clear things out). I've been trying to get up to Nome for several summers now, I have gold fever... I've never been to Alaska, but I have mightily enjoyed my rare trips to the Yukon and NWT.

These pics are great! I'm lucky enough to be going to Alaska next month for 10 days. Me and my buds are traveling via RV from Homer in the South up to Denali for some hiking and fishing. Can't wait! I still haven't figured out what lens I should bring along for a canon 20D. All I have at the moment is a 50mm. Any recommendations?
Ahh you lucky dog! Yes, I'd take something wide, and somethimg with a little reach for wildlife.. The 17-40L is a little high, but its so well worth it.. And the 70-300 is very affordable...I'm not sure what budget you're working with, but that should get you started.
Be safe, have a blast, bring me back some of that Purple Alaskan Thunder, and take lots of pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy 4-20!!
I'd love to live in Alaska. My mom's cousin lives there and he loves it. I need to go visit him one of these days.
