Man...that whole thing better not go through....

Bush now threatens a veto for any bills that would limit oversee ownership of ports.
What happend to national security at all costs???
We already have overseas ownership of our ports so banning it would be stupid. Plus the UAE group that wants to manage them already manages most of the large ports in the world that ship goods into the states. If they were a terrorist front organization that wanted to ship something into the US they could already do that. This whole thing is so dumb.
It is not IMO

The problem is the double standard.
Three years ago, we were being encouraged to boycott France and Germany because they dared to disagree with us. Remember "Freedom Fries"? Subtle nuances of diplomacy be damned... "You're either with us or you're with the terrorists. The beast will make off with your children! He'll come after them in the night!" (I watched Beauty and the Beast last night, and I now suspect that the film's character Gaston is in charge of American foreign policy)
Now that the public has been conditioned to respond in a certain way, here comes a real-world situation. One corporation wants to make a perfectly capitalistic move to buy out another corporation. It's just that the buyer happens to be a state-owned concern, and the state that owns it happens to have the word "Arab" in its name. Subtle nuances: being owned in country X is no more a problem than being owned in country Y in the modern global economy. But we don't *do* "subtle" anymore, remember?
We don't like(lyrics courtesy of this non-commercial site)
What we don't understand
In fact it scares us
And this monster is mysterious at least
Bring your guns
Bring your knives
Save your children and your wives
We'll save our village and our lives
We'll kill the Beast!
As for our common defense, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals... Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake. - B. Obama 1/20/09
