Such a nice piece of property to be wasted on this....
I think she was just told it was a styrofoam building.Originally Posted by Smito
More sub-par construction for Turtle Creek.
Does anybody have any idea about their prices?

I don't know if it's a waste. It's not a nursing home. Seniors there will use the parks, gyms, restaurants and Arts District facilitiies like everyone else. If Dallas wants a truly vibrant downtown and urban core, it's going to need more diversity than just the 20 somethings in overpriced jeans.Originally Posted by Kelley USA

Developers have broken ground for a 7-story seniors housing project overlooking Dallas' Lee Park.
The Belmont Village Senior Living will have 201 apartments and is located at 3535 N. Hall Street in Oak Lawn.
The building is scheduled to open in mid-2013 and will have independent and assisted living units for seniors.

Sad. Looks like a French prison. Metal roof. Stucco. A great development site wasted with this junk. Sigh.
Given the Turtle Creek neighborhood, and development styles of the area, I think it might actually be a good fit.
It sort of reminds me of the Drexel developments scattered around Uptown: http://www.drexeldev.com I do wish the windows were larger though. All in all I think it'll be a good fit for the area!
Get comfortable with it. These centers are going to be as numerous, particularly around our big medical centers, if not more than anything attracting much younger and very much more cash poor residents. You thought walk ability was a measure. Try walkerability. The future of increasing urban density will depend less on hip and cool and more on gray hair with big asset accounts. You may finally get a potent force for wider sidewalks plus 4 PM dinner specials.
This will be a good addition for this area and will have nice street presence. It will help shape the edge of the Lee park on that side even moreso.
Very nice! I love the building and think it will be an asset to the area. There's nothing wrong with building in neo-Renaissance (or I guess neo-Haussman in this case) styles -- classical forms still have merit when well-built and integrated to their environment.
Times weighs down on you like an old, ambiguous dream. You keep on moving, trying to slip through it. But even if you go to the ends of the earth, you won't be able to escape it.

I think it a nice design, and it should help densify the area.
If it's not stone and slate, it wont last 40 years.
While I also wish that nearly every building were to be built to the quality (stone, cast-stone and other geological materials) of the Crescent or Ritz Carton, it is simply not feasible for everyone's budget. Pertaining to the stucco, it is a relatively cheap material that can look great if colored in a tasteful fashion.
Really, a French Prison, I guess you are not familiar with French prisons?
Just for comparison let's take a look at La Bastille (14th century),

Then an abbey (12th century) remodeled in the early 1800s,

Now the brand new 2011 penitentiary (that was built in my hometown between apple orchards and beet fields) with painted walls inside and outside the building, open green space and a soccer field.

So I would definitely think that Neo-Haussmann, like msutton said, is a good word to define the design of this building.

I drove by here yesterday and they are moving fast on this, it looks like they are almost done with the below level excavation.
Good to hear! They must have a short deadline.
Looks like the crane went up in last few days, noticed a new crane while on was on lemmon waiting at turtle creek
So I guess this is the second crane downtown? The only other one being 1400 Hi Line? We used to have so many more.
Well in the fall that Victory office tower is supposed to start construction and hopefully Harwood is serious about their recent PR about the double towers near the Katy Trail they want to build. At least you have those to look forward too. Also there is that Turtle Creek tower that all we saw a rendering for so there is chance of a few more popping up over the next year. Course then there is the OMNI hotel parent company HQ at the old Parkland site whenever that gets off the ground.
Below are some pictures that were taken from my balcony. I have a front row seat to the construction (and accompanying noise). The first pic is from early March, the last two from the first week in April.

That neighborhood is really shaping up. I love the short streets of single family homes bookended by clusters of mid & high rises.

I think the windows will be fine; the don't appear to be disproportionally small. This is a great addition to TC despite the new citizens being in the upper echelon of the "experience" category; after all, some senior citizens might prefer to live in a more urban environment than a suburban environment.

Scaffolding covers the Sale Street side of the building.
