    Lightbulb DFWU Meet-Up

hey guys and gals, the idea has been tossed around here and there about getting the members of the board together or something like that. why don't we use this thread to throw out some ideas, i am sure it will be somewhat complicated ie time, place etc. but lets hear it, what do you all think.

    That would certainly be interesting.

I would be the youngest, I think...weird. I've always been like that.

I'm all for it! I'm sure it would be interesting to see what comes of it- so many people have so many good ideas for this City. Perhaps in the long run we can figure out a way to bring some of our ideas to light for the City and developers etc...

I'm locked away in Richardson, but I am game to meet anywhere, as long as it is a time when I can meet. Busy schedules can be a problem...

Sounds good to me...really we should meet downtown somewhere...seems like a no-brainer that a group of people interested in urban issues would meet downtown....just let me know when and where.

I'd have to say that it'd be great that you meet in-town Dallas. Somewhere in Uptown or Downtown (of course.) Nice long walking excursion everywhere with some good sit-down eat to top it off. Some venturing into buildings, et al...

I'd also have to say I wish I could be there - what a shame! Get a board going and have no way until late Spring to even have another chance to meet you all. I'd like to also see a meet between John's site members and this site's members over in Fort Worth. It would be quite a good time. Maybe we can arrange that for late Spring/early Summer when I'm back from my next trip out in the Pacific - which starts in a couple of weeks.

Take photos on this meet! Of everything, anything, and yourselves! Post them here, as well!

Sometime on a weekend, preferably a Sunday. I have church in the mornings, but not lately...different story there...but on Saturdays until who knows when, I have Academic Decathlon. Then again, am I the only one under eighteen here? Probably. Eh. Oh well, I have always been the type to hang with an older crowd as seen by my participation here. Once again, I would really enjoy such a meet. I also think that if we ever had any "power" of sorts, a view from a high-school aged guy could be quite insightful. Anyhow, I could go for a Friday evening, although it should be an all day thing, and all of us would be busy on weekdays. For me, all Sundays in January and February are open as can be, but the first weekend in March, I will probably be in San Antonio for AcDec State. After that, I think Saturdays will be open as well. The 9th and 16th of March are in my "Spring Break", and I will be in St. Louis at some point, so that is unsure. Weekends look open until the Easter weekend, when I will be traveling to NYC to play in Carnegie Hall...yeh yeh...and at that point, we near May, and I think that I have probably gone too far here. No worries, you might as well, know...I guess.

Whenever we meet, I think it will be really cool. So there ya go.

One problem I think many governments experience is the lack of view points from each segment of the population. Youthful idealism should be included in many policy making processes, especially when the long range standard of living for a community is concerned.

I'm still up for this if we can pull it together. Perhaps we should just decide on a date and time and let everyone else decide if it's good or not for them.

    meeting time

hey yall, i am new to this message board.... i moved downtown about three months ago (love it: i dont even remember what rush hour looks like, sometimes i dont drive my truck for 3-4 days at a time) anyway i moved down here because i was excited by the redevelopment (i call it vitalization) that started in the last five years and seems to be gathering steam and i want to be a part of that. seems like everyone is saying on this thread that meeting in person is a good idea but no one is running with it so here goes: how about next sunday at 3pm at the starbucks in west village? close to downtown, and suburb people can take dart train to cityplace and walk the two blocks to west village. not married to the time or location, just an idea...
ps love the site and love the way you guys think, sometimes i get depressed by the crap at city hall and the traffic etc, it helps to be reminded that there are others that have a dream of dallas as one of the worlds great cities....
can email me at gregorchad@hotmail.com or i will check up on this thread later in the week

I'm out on the 26th. No worries. It can be done again another day. If the 26th is good for most, then I encourage moving forward with that date.

That's sounds like a great time and date. And to confirm its at Starbucks at the WV correct? And also, this may sound stupid, but how will we all know who we are? Just wondering.

Which one? There are too many Starbucks in this city! What street/intersection? Can I get there on the trolley? Well, of course I can do that. I have a funny story about the trolley in the WV. Ask me about it sometime.

If I understand correctly we're talking about the Starbucks in the West Village on/near the corner of Cole and Lemmon across of Legacy Trading company and next to the entrance for the apartments.

Yes, the starbucks at WV. Urban...you can take the train down to Cityplace. and then either trolley to the Starbucks or walk......it is not a bad walk.

I just wanted to say that I will try to make it also. I have walked from the west entrance of the CityPlace station to the West Village, and it is a short, but pleasant walk. On my last trip, I parked downtown and rode the train to CP and then walked over to the WV and then back to the station. It was a warm day, so I enjoyed the walk. The Starbucks is pretty easy to find. It is on the side of the West Village that is opposite Central Expressway (Cole Street). It is right next to the apartment entrance, so that puts is fairly close to the center of the development.

May I suggest we get together on the same day - same place - but a different time?

Instead of 3pm at Starbucks, how about we shoot for 2pm?

I'll add it to the calendar on this forum. If that time does not work for anyone, then so be it.

I forgot about the fireplace. However, the current weather forecasts say that it will warm up by Sunday after the coldest weather of the year so far between now and then.

    how to get there

directions to starbucks in west village from cityplace station.
from cityplace station, which is underground, you go up the escalator, then there are two escalators that go left or right. left takes you to cityplace tower, right takes you to the uptown (west) side of central/75. go up the right one and when you get to the top you will see a cluster of 5 story red brick buildings about two blocks away. that is "west village." starbucks is on the other side of west village from cityplace station, on cole between lemmon and blackburn. the trolley runs from cityplace station every 10 minutes or so and goes right past starbucks, so that is one option. this is a map from the guide if you want to check it out....
