    DFWU2 New site feedback

With this new version of the boards (which looks very nice!), whenver you try to quick reply or navigate away from the page by clicking on one of the hierarchy text-hyperlinks near the top, the browser pulls up a box requesting of you whether or not you'd like to leave the page. Is there any way to get rid of this? Not a big deal but just a minor annoyance.

Anddddddddddd nevermind, it's not doing it anymore... That was easy!

    DFWU2 New site feedback

    No no no no no.

I don't want to "Connect" using the Facebook link. I don't want a new, slower, version of the website with the same information compressed so it can have tons of white space.

EDIT: Oh, look. A "Home" link with no content, and a "Blogs" link with no content either! Hooray for screen clutter!

Takes a little time to build those things up. I like the updated look.

It does look nice but the new layout eats up some screen-estate. Plus my aTm gig em has disappeared

Will there be a way to flag posts of interest for future comments?

I agree, the old look was functional, a lot quicker and not cluttered like this new "lOOk". I guess the space taken by the slower space-hungry advertisements might be needed for revenue, but its a far lessor site now because of it.

vBulletin 4 is such an improvement from the previous version on here. The speed even on the slowest server benefits from it.

The additional options in just quick reply (text formatting, smileys, compressed images, direct video links (instead of code), autosave, etc.) are worth the time and effort to upgrade the site.

But the most important upgrade in vB4 is [drumroll]... Multiquote!

    Thanks you!

I'm glad to see the option for multi-quote!

Found my UserCP settings in Forum Actions/General Settings and was pleased to see the option to disable profile page messaging.

Maybe I'm just being ignorant with the search options, but I cannot find the thread about the National Bible Museum that the owners of Hobby Lobby are thinking about putting in Dallas.

I've noticed that a few other threads have mysteriously disappeared (Park(ing) Day, for example).

The search index needs work still it appears. Quite a bit of search/sitemap rebuilding took place Saturday, and after 6 hours the search part of the rebuild timed out. That'll be something on the top of the list to fix.

I manually found a thread I was looking for a few minutes ago by scrolling and flipping pages until I found it, since I couldn't make it land in the search results either.

If I access/read posts on one device, those same posts appear as new posts when I access from a different device. Apparently cookies or something on your device now keeps track vs. the forum server.

Hmm I don't have that problem. I am using the iPad app for the forum at home and use Chrome browser on my work laptop and every time I switch devices it knows what I've looked at already and doesn't show me the posts I've already read as new.

That you had the problem or that it works? It may be that old server may have removed messages from new list once read while this server keeps them much longer. They are faded a little as an indicator, but maybe I miss that indication.

Posts I read on one computer are not marked as read when I switch to another computer....

It's not a problem for me though. On those days when I'm looking at the forum off and on all afternoon, I would rather have the threads with comments from the day show up when I click "New Posts" and/or "What's New?" since a lot of the time, I'll read what's fresh but wait to comment until later.

I've encountered the same issue. So, after I'm finished reading, I just make sure to click the "Mark Forums Read" button on the "Forum Actions" dropdown menu.

How did the housing oversupply thread get locked? Shouldn't there be a comment by admin at end of thread explaining action? Locking a thread seems new. I don't recall it with old system.

Locking isn't a new feature. .just a rarely used one. Threads normally get locked when the conversations get unruly, out of control, or otherwise abusive. Nothing about the housing oversupply thread struck me as being worthy of a thread lock. Maybe it was a mistake or glitch or something. I'll see if I can reopen it.

The search engine index has been rebuilt. Now I'm also finding all the threads (via search that) I was previously looking for the hard way.

I'm really liking how you can click on the attachment icon (paperclip) of each thread and view all of the attachments posted there without actually opening the thread.

The new search engine is definitely much better than the previous one.

Nope I will have to try it out but I prefer the iOS DFWU Forum app which is available on iTunes for iPhone and iPad.

Can you post a link to it or just give the name? Nothing specific shows up about DFWU in the App Store.

Let me find a link cause its not a app only for this forum it is a forum reader app called "ForumRunner" inside the app you simply search for our forum name and subscribe and from then on you can read the forum on your iPad or iPhone within the App.

Edit here is the link to the app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/forum...362527234?mt=8

The site is also Tapatalk compatible. The new Tapatalk 2.0 on Android is pretty great. The iOS app works well too although there's nothing functionally different with the iPad vs iPhone version.

This may have been asked before, did a brief search and didn't see it...

Does this site have a "chat" function? Almost all forums I've been on have had chat tools as part of the forum software...

Is this something that is frowned upon here? My first thought is that it wouldn't take away anything the classic discussion format.... but most may disagree. I think it would be a positive addition.

Anyway, I'd like to see the expert commentary/scathing rebukes of character and passive aggressive trolling about social issues taken to the next level... chat is an awesome way to have fun like that. haha, just kidding.... (80%).

Mainly, I'd just like to have whimsical chats about street cars and trains.

The first issue that pops in my head is there might need to be someone who moderates the chat just in case it goes crazy.

What I've experienced is mods are in there when they're available. But if they aren't available, the chat is always logged for review later.
