Legendary Dallas real estate developer Trammell Crow died Wednesday night at his East Texas ranch.

Crow – a Dallas native that became a worldwide icon in the real estate business – had been ill for some time.

His career, which spanned more than five decades, included building everything from modest Trinity River district warehouses to resorts and commercial buildings in Europe and in the Far East.

His soaring projects were major additions to the skylines of cities across the country, including Atlanta and San Francisco

“He was Americas greatest developer,” Dallas developer Mack Pogue, a long time friend and former partner, said Thursday. “I hope people remember him for that.”

In Dallas, he had a hand in building dozens and dozens of buildings including six downtown skyscrapers, the Dallas Market Center and the huge Hilton Anatole Hotel.

“The world will remember Mr. Crow as a legendary real estate developer and businessman because of his unparalleled vision and passion for success,” Jim Carreker, a former CEO of Trammell Crow Co. and Wyndham Hotels and a long time family friend, said Thursday in a statement. “But to those who were fortunate to know him personally, we will remember his humor and upbeat personality along with his uncompromising honesty, integrity and character.”

A piece of Dallas leaves with the icon Trammell Crow. Who can/will fill his shoes?

Rest in Peace TCrow.

I think his daughter Lucy is well on her way to becoming a Dallas real estate superstar.

Awesome man and an awesome family. Harlan and Lucy and Robert and Trammel S. are all and have been carrying the torch for him very successfully for him for quite some time. That family works well together through the holding company.

None of them seem to have his sweeping vision, however. A true Texas Legend. RIP

A toast to your great innovation Mr. Crow. You were THE man for any impossible task. The Apparel Mart with it's crazy Grand Hall. So many other Market Center firsts, and then your masterstroke The Anatole. It addressed so many things from luxury to art and gardens, rarely considered important in the Dallas of those times. And the architecture just kept getting better. The hometown stuff reached a personal peak for me with the then LTV Tower in Dallas. Would that we had a few more of your highest profile products here at home. We will miss you for sure, cause they don't make em the way they used to. Rest well.
