I nominate the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts and its impact on the Arts District. Although this project has been in the works for a while, in 2008 we watched major construction progress and adjacent property development.

The design and vision probably predates this year, but I am going with the groundbreaking of the Main Street Garden.
It is small in size, and requires nothing more than some grass and benches, but its development has increased the urgency of "doing something" with the Dallas Grand Hotel. Just maybe...maybe...this projects gets more people out of the tunnels DT.

I agree about Main Street Gardens it will give Downtown Dallas a brand new face to attract residents, businesses, and travelers.

I am going to add another one to this, although it is not a project per se: AT&T's relocation to DTD. Having the largest telecommunications company in the country move to DTD is a watershed moment for Dallas. When was the last time, if ever, there was a "Fortune 10" company located inside the loop?

Yeah, but how did it change the surrounding area, other than the demolition /relocation of the DART bus stop?

I suppose in a physical street level sense "no".
But it may change it by encouraging even more leasing of office space downtown. Last time I checked, DTD still has a relatively high vacancy rate. Who knows? More leases downtown in time may lead to new buildings.
It is probably much easier to sell downtown to prospective companies, when you can say a company, like AT&T, is located there.

I'll nominate the great advances Dallas is making with the homeless. The Bridge, along with the ongoing work of Central Dallas Ministries is a significant, if relatively unflashy and silent project. Moreso than the Merc or anything else going on in downtown, the work with the homeless is really helping to change lives.

This poll should be broken down into two parts, postive and negative impacts. I would say the bridge made the largest impact though a negative impact on the area of downtown.
