Not trying to sound crazy. I live in Camden at the Farmers Market. Tonight (12/09/2008) at around 11:00pm we heard the noise a helicopter makes flying nearby. Being that it sounded so close, I decided to take a look. As I looked out my windows, I saw two helicopters flying almost nose to tail. The were so close together that I could only discern the sound of one helicopter. I'm not an aviation expert, so I don't know what models they were and it was night so I could not see any markings. They appeared black, but I assume night may have something to do with it. I would estimate that the were easily within 200 yards of the top of my building flying west then turning slightly south after passing our buildings. The front helicopter had a long thin pole protruding from the front/right of it. Neither helicopter had any search lights on, or any other lights for that matter, not even the standard aviation lights. I understand that there was some fog around, but not enough to distort my view of the lights at that distance. I clearly saw the lights of another airplane a little further off.

Shortly after they passed (could be unrelated... like someone in the parking garage hitting a pole), we heard a bang and felt a low rumble.

Just wondering if anyone could clear this crazy thing up, or give some insight, I don't want to be the crazy man in the streets. Just want to know if they were military exercises or what.

THANKS!

After my first post, I saw them flying back at 11:45pm on 12/09/2008. Again, right over my building. However, I did not see the log black pole I mentioned in the first one. Lights and distance are the same as initially described in the previous post.

I heard them to in N. Oak CLiff. I didn't catch them, but it sounded like one chopper VERY, VERY close to the ground

I didn't see them, but in Deep Ellum we could certainly hear and feel them. Very noisy. I guess I should have looked out the window, but I thought it was just CareFlight coming in lower than usual to Baylor.

You weren't supposed to see that. Men in black suits will be arriving shortly and ask you to look at their pen.

Chinook helo looking like two close together?

Helicopter in-flight refueling?

As has been said back in the 90s:
"Since the government says black helocopters don't exist, it can't be illegal to shoot them down"

Same thing happened to me on Saturday morning! I thought it was a loud lawnmower, I open my sliding glass doors and there is a big black helicopter with a rope/pole hanging down. However, after watching for awhile, it seemed they were moving some large objects back and forth, I have no idea what they were though....

Sorry if I scared you guys. Whenever you see a black helicopter, don't freak out, wave!

It's just me out for a midnight joy ride.

Glad it wasn't just me that saw them. I saw them over North Oak Cliff Monday night around 8:15pm or so. They were heading east just south of I30 and were flying low.

I understand you were panicked but this happened in Dallas, why did you go complain to the Charlotte city council?

OMG I saw these helicopters too headed west on I-30 after work (I get off at 11:30.) Yeah I remember them being black and flying nose to ass and looking kinda ominous.

I don't suppose anyone has a possible explanation for what they may have been doing?

Not sure if it's related, but I saw three copters heading north along LBJ from Mesquite a few days back. It was dark, so I couldn't tell anything about markings, but they were flying in close formation -- though with lights on. Looked kinda Christmasy, actually.

We live in Bryan place and either hear the "Cop"-ters or the Baylor careflight helicopters all the time. I just assume they are "keep us safe". ; )

Those helos had to have been CH-47 Shithooks (Chinooks), they have a Nat'l Guard detachment of them out at the old NAS Hensley.

Wonder what they were carrying tho?
