There was a meeting at City Hall back in September. The attendees actually filled the City Hall Chamber. I've heard from several people that they've been making calls to select individuals to be a part of the "task force." I don't know what criteria they're using to decide who is on the task force.

They've got their dogs, they just need to find some ponies.

It was open to everyone, the September meeting was televised, and there was a sign-up form on the city's website. From what I've heard more news should be forthcoming soon, I believe it was mentioned at the first meeting the next city-wide meeting will be this month.

I serve on one of the teams, the bus tours of each of the areas took place last week. The next meeting is the week before Thanksgiving.

Seems to me that the Zoo is something that Southern Dallas could build off of --- And a re-do of that whole I35 intersection that includes the Zoo would be great for the Zoo also.
Seems to me like a theamed hotel ajointing the zoo would be a great idea too.

South I-35 from downtown to I-20 has been under design for years. Most of that corridor from downtown south of the Zang curve will be below grade. Each intersection will have it's own identity although I don't remember what the plan for the Zoo exit was.

That's great that they are rebuilding to Zang. They need to rebuild all the way to the MD Love split.

If Pegasus doesn't rebuild it, another highway project under a different name will.
Check out NCTCOG's 2030 Highway plans:
http://www.nctcog.org/trans/mtp/2030/CorridorsMap.pdf
Then check out the Southern Gateway project. {20 - IH35E/US67 (Southern Gateway)}
The IH 35E/US 67 Southern Gateway project limits include IH 35E from 8th Street to IH 20, and US 67 from IH 35E to FM 1382 within the cities of Dallas, Duncanville, and Cedar Hill.
The highly-traveled segment of IH 35E between 8th Street and US 67 will be reconstructed to accommodate 10 general purpose lanes (plus auxiliary lanes) and a 2-lane reversible HOV/Managed facility. This segment will also contain 4 frontage road lanes (plus auxiliary lanes near ramp locations and cross-streets) north of 12th Street.
Between US 67 and IH 20, the IH 35E corridor will be reconstructed for 6 general purpose lanes (plus auxiliary lanes) and a 1-lane reversible HOV/Managed facility. There will be 4 continuous frontage road lanes (plus auxiliary lanes near ramp locations and cross-streets) through this section as well. Additionally, this segment will feature the total reconstruction of the IH 20/IH 35E interchange, including 2-lane direct connector ramps for the 4 traffic movements to/from the south.
Significant expansion will also occur along the US 67 corridor between IH 35E and IH 20. This segment will carry 6 general purpose lanes (plus auxiliary lanes), a 2-lane reversible HOV/Managed facility, and 4 lanes of continuous frontage roads (plus auxiliary lanes near ramp locations and cross-streets). The IH 20/US 67 Interchange will experience total reconstruction as well, with 2-lane direct connector ramps recommended for the northwest and southeast quadrants of the interchange.
Finally, the US 67 portion of the project between IH 20 and FM 1382 will undergo reconstruction for 6 general purpose lanes (plus auxiliary lanes), a 1-lane reversible HOV/Managed facility, and 4 lanes of continuous frontage roads (plus auxiliary lanes near ramp locations and cross-streets).
The reversible HOV/Managed lanes will operate northbound during the morning peak period and southbound during the evening peak period. Beyond the northern limits of this project, the HOV/Managed lanes will extend into the Project Pegasus portion of IH 35E for access to the Dallas Central Business District and the Lower Stemmons Corridor. At the southern end of the IH 35E segment of this project, the HOV/Managed lane will terminate into the general purpose lanes just north of the IH 20 Interchange. The HOV/Managed lane at the southern end of the US 67 segment will be designed to continue south into the US 67 Gateway Horizon project. Planned intermediate access points to/from the HOV/Managed lanes within the project limits include: (1) the proposed Jefferson-Memorial connector (to/from IH 35E just north of 8th Street); (2) Hampton Road Park-and-Ride facility (to/from US 67 just north of Hampton Road); (3) IH 20 (to/from US 67 via direct connector ramp that allows eastbound-northbound and southbound-westbound movements); and (4) slip ramps to/from the US 67 general purpose lanes just north of Pleasant Run Road. All improvements are expected to be completed and fully operational by year 2025. The Texas Department of Transportation – Dallas District will be the responsible agency for this project. TxDOT CSJ#: 0261-02-044/0261-03-030/0442-02-088;
Estimated Total Project Cost: $1.01 billion

I wonder how much it will really cost.
2025 is so far in the future, I hope a more comprehensive plan which combines commuter rail with the highway rennovation/expansion occurs. Kay B Hutch would be a great govenor for Texas cities' transportation issues.

The Task Force met again on Thursday. We have been divided up into our sub-geo groups of which there are 10. The city is working on a web page now but this will be the address www.southerndallas.org They showed it to us on Thursday and it looks like it will have lots of information once it goes live. I don't know the date it will go up but it should be fairly soon.

The 35E/20 rebuild will be interesting. It will break the pattern between the identical sextuplet of interchanges around the south & east sides of 20/635

I believe the Zoo exit will feature a 75' statue of Jenny the elephant suspended above the roadway.
