Been seeing a lot of gas stations being boarded up and torn down lately found this one boarded up too. Wonder what is planned here. maybe another bank. there is already a Wachovia across the street.

I was surprised to see that station boarded up. I think it was built less than 15 years ago.

I wonder what will go in there? I heard that QT is going to be moving more stores into the DFW area starting this year.

I know that when Exxon / Mobil merged. They were forced to shut down dozens of stores because of anti-trust laws. But, having them closed down this long after the merger is odd.

There is a suprising number of the newer style Exxon locations in the burbs that have been closed and boarded up with nothing replacing them. Alot of the Mobil gas stations were turned into Tetco's (I forget what gas brand they sell).

I recall reading that Exxon wanted out of the retail gas business. There's little to no money in that business for them. I would expect them to simply sell locations and not close them. However, it is possible that a franchisee had financial issues or the locations simply did not earn enough to justify keeping them open.
Here’s an article that confirms their desire to depart the retail business:
http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/idUSN1238193020080612?feedType=RSS&feedName=businessNews
“Service stations have struggled, even with $4-a-gallon plus gasoline prices because they have not been able to pass along to customers their additional costs from soaring crude oil.”
“"The retail gasoline business is a highly volatile and typically low return kind of business and thus the decision," Gilman said.”
The plan is to sell the company owned stations while maintaining the Exxon/Mobil name.

I live in Merriman Park across the street. Our hoa sent out a letter saying it was a bank... Forget the name at the moment. Not BOA or wa-mu. , Maybe wachovia. I forget who is left standing after all this financial storm.

Well I doubt Wa-Mu or Wachovia will be opening any banks any time soon...so I doubt it's one of them.

especially since this location is smack dab in the middle of one of each of these...

I looked at the HOA memo again. Looks like it is going to be a CHASE.
I think they were purchased by BOA. I would rather have that than a check chasing store or beer store!

I'm surprised it's going to be a Chase since the new WaMu across the street isn't even open yet and has recently merged with Chase.

What? Chase purchased by BOA? Is that even legal? Are you thinking of Chase buying WaMu?

I saw a sign a day or two ago on the property and it is indeed going to be a Chase Bank.
