What is Walk Score?
Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. Why is walking important? (http://www.walkscore.com/walking-matters.shtml)
How it works. (http://www.walkscore.com/how-it-works.shtml)

I got a 26 - Not walkable. But, there is redevelopment going on in my neighborhood (most of the houses south of me have been bulldozed) so, more amenities are coming.

At Live Oak Lofts, I score a 75. Hopefully that score will move up as/if City Lights and other projects nearby come online.

I get a 42. I'm assuming that will jump once we get the DART station and Towncenter.

I got a 71 in Junius Heights -- who knew it was a .36 mile stagger home from the Lakewood Theater Balcony Club?
.5 from Paperbacks Plus so I guess it would be a similar stagger from The Tipp - makes you realize just how deep the lots on Swiss Avenue, Gaston and Live Oak are...

72 for lower greenville...i wonder what the score would be if all the businesses had an online presence.

77 for 1900 Elm
91 for Interurban Lofts
The most surprising thing is that my old address in LONDON is only 34!
It doesn't take into consideration the closeness of mass transit which opens up a lot of other "walkable" destinations.

West end, got an 80
70 - 90 = Very Walkable: It's possible to get by without owning a car.

I wonder if the number of destinations influences the score (sorry I didn't read it) but I did notice that quite a few were missing from my area. Maybe we could deluge them with the missing locations...

My place scored 5 out of 100. The Worst. hahaha
Might score better if criteria include walking distance to:
-hardwood and pine forest (0.1 miles)
-small lake (0.5)
-river rapids (0.3)
-water fall (0.6)
eh, whatever

Looks like a simple mash-up of maps and yellow pages - not sophisticated enough to put in public transportation stops and such.

Neiman Marcus has two restaurants downtown... the Zodiac and NM Cafe.
Unfortunately it also lists all the restaurants in the tunnels which close at 5pm.

I beat you with a 2, but most of my area is still under construction. (pic taken 5 minutes ago)

This is true. My old place in Oak Lawn (91) beat my old place in Queens, NY (89).
But I guess they are talking about a walkable neighborhood, not a walkable city. So things like mass transit and walking to your place of employment may not be factors. Buying groceries and going out to eat are good factors.

Ya, it's been over a year since I noticed evidence of beaver in the back yard; your beaver were washed away recently during all the heavy rain, right? Insects will probably always be the number one enemy of my vegetable and flower gardens, but deer (I hope) will remain number two for years to come.

my parents' home, where i stay when i'm in dallas, got a 31. The apartment I'm staying in now in Alphabet City gets a 100.
I love Manhattan.

I got an 8, as I'm out in the country, but I think it's supposed to be lower, because there's a bunch of locations listed that don't actually exist. In fact the locations listed that did exist weren't even in the right spots.
I went ahead and checked out where I grew up in Richardson, it actually got a 45. My parents moved away a couple of years ago to Staunton, Virginia. Their new place got a 71.

My suburban home scores a 36 while my former place in the Casa Linda area scores a 26. I always thought that far east Dallas was a suburb at heart. :)
Meanwhile my vacation spot in Lincoln Park tops out at 88... I miss Chicago. :(

Farmers Market got a 62, I really wonder what it would have gotten back in Deep Ellums prime...
My parents place in chicago got a 42, but its 3 blocks off of the blue line... ehh
My place in Rochester NY got a 62, but that really was not true, nothing is really "walking distance"
my last place in St. Pete got a 12, but some of the stores it came up with was like "Maw's Place"

I thought most people would love this site.
I scored a 9 out of 100. I would imagine I will be one of the lowest scores here by far, since my developement is new 5 years ago and was surrounded by absolutely nothing to walk to, not even a park.

That's weird. Two weeks ago I got a 75, now I get 86. Nothing has changed in the neighborhood as far as I know. Perhaps they got a bunch of new listings that they didn't have two weeks ago, thus upping the score?

88 for the wilson building. they have neiman marcus listed as a restaurant
While that's a weird way of listing it, there are actually 4 restaurants inside: The Freshmarket Cafe, The Espresso Bar, The Bar on 6 and The Zodiac. The Freshmarket can be really crazy at lunchtime. The Espresso Bar has the most insanely deelish White Bean Chicken Chili. And the Zodiac will forever be loved for the complimentary popovers with strawberry butter.
My hood scored an 52. I feel like it should be higher. I'm a huge fan of walking my Kings Highway/Kessler hood.

Anyone with a 90+ rating should know their area is highly walkable. This isn't a scientific result. Its more of a fun and entertaining way to rate your area.

I don't really think my place SHOULD have a 92. Maybe something in Manhattan could score that high, but I don't think I'd rate downtown Dallas at a 92 at this stage.

Walk Score helps people find walkable places to live. Walk Score calculates the walkability of an address by locating nearby stores, restaurants, schools, parks, etc. Why is walking important?
One thing that is rarely discussed with walkable/non-walkable neighborhoods/cities is the availability of concrete sidewalks, whether an area has them or just a grassy field that people must walk on. To me, a neighborhood isnt walkable unless the surface im walking on is a hard concrete, brick or stone, anything but a dam grassy or dirt surface in which i have to choose between walking on it or the road shoulder which is dangerous.

..72 Very Walkable Galleria..
Back about 8 to 10 yrs ago i visited the Galleria. I was hard pressed to find anything to walk on that wouldnt put me in danger of encountering the traffic on the tollway. I dont know if the area has improved today. Back then i would have given Galleria a score of 35.

Cedars got a 71. Very few of the listed locations exist. Is there a Home Depot 1/2 mile away? I don't think so.
