Channel 11 just showed the Club Blue site (Old Hart Furnature building) The owner closed the club but it gutting the building and renaming it to Club Cirque. Ch 11 showed an interview with Our Very own Angela Hunt, She is very concerned the about the owner and the new club. I am skeptical of this place. I don't think it should be there myself. I say put something else in the building that will bene
fit downtown. That attract crime and violence.
I think the city council should relocate the guy to Deep Ellum.
You have new lofts at Republic. How about new Retail restaurants in that space.
I have never been a huge fan of night clubs, especially ones they attract crime and violence.

First you'll need a time machine to go back to the 80's.

Places like Club Blue do not attract people that live DT. They attract people from other cities who come straight to the club and then go home. They don't patronize other establishments- these aren't people that come DT to have dinner, have a few drinks and then go to the club. We need something that will compliment what other investors are doing!

After being open almost two years, what Club Blue turned into may not have been a good reality for the downtown struggling to reinvent itself. But, the place could easily take a different direction now, especially with so many more downtown residents available to influence the atmosphere. Seems like Club Blue was just a little short of becoming the kind of downtown destination people would have praised (except maybe self-righteous religious groups).

If all of a sudden we get downtown Dallas resident associations that pitch a fit anytime a night club wants to open up causing the city council trying to decide what kinds of entertainment is appropriate in downtown, then we'll have a much worse problem than the pretentious (and dangerous) Dallas version of the "scary gangstas" that ended up hanging out in and around Club Blue.

Damn those religious nutjobs who don't want to be shot outside of nightclubs!

I, for one will miss the 10:15p Hoochie Line outside of the club. Nothing is more entertaining then seeing a bunch of girls in microminis freezing outside a nightclub in January. Seriously. Double points if their middrift is showing.

Its worth it to be cold for 10 min, vers having to hold onto your jacket all night or wait in another line for coat check then have to remeber your jacket when your drunk and leaving the bar with your one night stand.

What other businesses in downtown/Deep Ellum are as popular as Club Blue?

Although the people that frequent Club Blue may cause problems, this seems like one of the few successful businesses in the area. Club One doesn't post the numbers that Club Blue does. Neither does Purgatory or whatever establishment is now operating in the old Copper Tank Brewery space.

Club Blue is so popular that someone can get shot outside on Friday and there is still a line to get in on the following Saturday. How many businesses that have been in Deep Ellum or downtown in the past five years have been that popular? This business seems like a success story.

I'd rather risk being shot outside a nightclub than risk my child being molested by a religious nutjob.

Dang, just make it a gay nightclub. The gays hardly ever shoot anybody.

Property values tend to rise when they come to an area, too.

I'd trade my redneck neighbors with their constantly cluttered yard for Will & Grace in a heartbeat.

LakeRidge,

You mean Club Blue WAS a success story. It no longer exists....

By the way, Mantis, Obar, Clear and Fuse are all WILDLY successful.

Club Blue used to have a metal detector in the entrance for its patrons. is that supposed to make one feel safe? I guess being there guns are potentially left out of the club, but how many of us want to be at a club where people regularly bring guns? None of the other CBD clubs have metal detectors, so its not the neigborhood that is not safe

That's a good point. How many business can survive with regular shootings outside the front door? Impressive.

However, it also may illustrate the type of crowd that is attracted to the joint.

Q: What is somebody thinking when they frequent a place where people regularly get shot?
A: People who want to shoot somebody.

Its a badge of honor to some to tell stories about being there and having heard shots or seen fights, etc etc. I just say, why not setup shop on restaurant row. That way you can charge for parking as well.

Chris Rock has said something similar in a parody song, "there's no Sex in the Champagne Room."

"Don't go to parties with metal detectors. Sure it feels safe inside, but what about all those [edit] waitin outside with guns. They know you ain't got one."
