Cafe Brazil on 75 and University building sold

Posted By: Scott Dorn <sdorn@mac.com>
Date: Tuesday, 29 May 2007, at 9:14 a.m.

I was told by an employee at my favorite Cafe Brazil, that is will soon be relocating. a developer has bought the property, along with Park Cities Motors, Manhatten Building and Johnson square.
The developer is looking to a potential high rise development..
That area has so ripe for development for some time now. In the coming year I think we shall see yale, university and nearby areas start to redevelop. to bring more people to this area.
Right now The Old shamburger lumberyard is host to the flowers utility truck, the old sign has been beat up. I think it's a matter of time that is torn down, Jack Pubs just past Worcola has been gone over a year now. we shall see whats next.

It's nice to see new projects around town. My wife and I have gone to that Cafe Brazil many times. She used to live at Mockingbird, so that was the closest one at the time. We'll have to make a point to stop in before they shut it down for 'old time's sake.

Any idea of a closing date?

Wonder where this Cafe Brazil will relocate to? There is already the Cafe Brazil on Greenville near the M Streets. Wonder if this one would move to Old Towne.

They should move to West Village...

It should go in the bottom of the highrise that they build there. I love that I can walk to it from Lovers Lane station

Wonder if they're planning to go into the small addition at Mockingbird station? Seems like that'd be a good fit for them.

I like this idea, imagine how busy that place would become sitting in WV.

Sdorn,

How are you able to view the DHS messageboard?

All I can see are the headers at the top. I cannot see any of the messages.

I agree, Mockingbird Station would an awesome location for a 24 hour restaurant like this!!

Bill go to your preferences and set them for two years.
that should fix the problem.

To answer everyone else question not closing date but I heard a hotel is a possibilty. I sent a note and some pix to Steve Brown of the DMN He acknowledged me and thanked me for the tip. I hope to have more information soon. so just stay tuned

Thanks. I have been trying to log on there for a couple months with no luck. Many others are in the same boat. They should have sent out an email to the registered users.

How Exciting! I wonder what the height restrictions are for this property. A seventy story apartment tower would be lovely.

This bit of land is in University Park and not Dallas, too.

That's bizarre that a tiny part of University Park crosses Central.

Lived here my entire life and never knew that! :)

Me too!!!there is already a hotel at Mockingbird. Do we really need another one?

I don't think the Parkies are going to go for that...a few inches on Mockingbird is nothing to compare to 70 stories. How could they keep looking down on people with a skyscraper over their shoulders?

SDORN

I don't know anymore than what I was told at this point. The waiter at the cafe told me a hotel don't know how high but 70 stories for that I agree is a little high. Hopefully Steve Brown will know more in the coming days.

I think a smallish, boutique style, ultra luxury hotel about 70 floors would be fabulous. The park cities people wouldn't mind because they would be all transient visitors lining the school pocket books. At the last BOPCPP meeting they clearly stated that all snobbery should only be directed at hip-cats from Lakewood. And Garland, but that goes with out saying.

Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather be a hep-cat.

Who knows Rosewood what is in store, but big things are about to happen in this side of town.
Question is can I keep up with process with the cam? lately Keeping up with the progress has been a challenge of late.

Nope... look behind it... UP service yards are there, trucks and all. More than a sliver.

Sad to see it go... spent many a Sunday AM there in past when I lived in M-Streets.

Me, too... I'm surprised they just don't park a UP police car on either the service road or Central itself as a sort of permanent radar trap... would be a great way for them to collect revenues from non-residents, kind of like Hickory Creek does on the small slice of I-35 that runs through the town north of Lake Lewisville.

Plans for University Park's tallest building are on track

...

Taylor Stone, managing director of developer Prescott Realty Group, said construction wouldn't begin for at least six months, partially because of the economy. The company must also return to the city with detailed plans.

...

The University Park tower would total 425,000 square feet. The exact mix of office, retail and residential space hasn't been determined, nor have the sizes of apartments. Five of the 20 stories are expected to be used for parking. Those details would be sorted out in future applications with the city, which would have to receive Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council approval.

Mr. Stone said his company believes a mix of uses is best for the area because of proximity to light-rail stations and because people value living close to their workplaces – in this case, possibly in the same building.

"The urban infill product addresses the environment – less driving, less traffic," he said. "People are looking for areas like this."

You have a lot to learn young padawan.

You might think of University Park as the Vatican City. Just like it exactly UP has its own royalty and comes out to wave at Dallas citizens every now and then just to say yes we live in The University Park. While the rest of Dallas that surrounds it kinda just says yeah whatever, until one of the few gets invited in by their large bank account balance.

Highland Park and University Park also maintain their own, separate police departments...

Awwww I am going to miss this place. Even though I have 2 other Cafe Brazil's within 5 mins to me (75 in Richardson and Coit in Plano), this one just has a certain, je ne sais quoi, about it. Its got that diner vibe, its not a place of beauty anything like that, but I just really like that place. Call me weird, that's okay.......

Anyone else have this weird feeling for the place?

I spent alot of time in this plave when we were living in East Dallas. I does have a little history it used to be a Waffle house back in the Day. Cafe Brazil later took it over. When this gets torn down yet another old Cafe Brazil will be history.

Yeah. I went here constantly while I was living on campus at SMU. It was just about the only place I'd go for real food. I'll be sad to see it torn down.
