I imagine pretty much everyone on this forum would agree that communication is key in any relationship....that's why we're here talking! Rising with the heat this summer are the hot topics of Safety, Panhandling, and Homelessness in Downtown Dallas. Conclusion: It's time to talk.
Let's proactively address these issues beyond an online forum and get to know the individuals who are working and serving on the front lines so we can better understand and address safety, panhandling and homelessness in Downtown.
This Wednesday, August 2nd, we're opening up the lines of communication between residents, workers, Dallas Police, DART, and Safety Patrol Officers along with caseworkers and organizations that serve the homeless. We're "Begging for Change!" This opportunity to connect with community leaders will hopefully be mutually beneficial for all parties and serve as a launching pad for further conversation and significant change.
Details (on two almost identical sessions):
1. Chase Towers' Rotunda, 2200 Ross Avenue from 12-1pm, free light lunch.
2. KUL Design Gallery, 1303 Main Street from 7-8pm, free coffee and dessert.
Also enjoy an exhibit of a local photographer highlighting Downtown Dallas life.
Be sure to RSVP to 214.742.8711 or publicsafety@downtowndallas.org ASAP!
So, who am I, you ask? My name's Amy and I'm an Urban Studies major at Columbia University (but a native Dallasite) that's presently interning with DowntownDallas. Learn more about what our organization does to advocate for the interests of Downtown Dallas at www.downtowndallas.org
