Great chance for the wonderful photographers from this forum. Starts Tuesday at 10 am --- this event has grown from a few people in the mid-1960s to many thousands today...see:

I'lll probably be at the Woodrow Tents at the end of the parade (Tokalon Park -- free beer!) if anyone wants to say howdy.
Also there are fireworks at Lakewood Country Club at dusk. Best places to watch are from Country Club Circle (great old mansions) off Gaston or LaVista as it cuts through the golf course.

Great pics! Ever since I have lived in Dallas I could never figure out why the city does not have their fireworks display at White Rock Lake. They could shoot them off over the lake (by the spillway) and could be seen by people all around the lake and to the highlands on the north (Mockingbird&Peavy Rd.). Traffic shouldn't be an issue as you can approach the lake and leave again from the North, South East and West! Perhaps someone knows why Dallas doesn't utilize this prime real estate on the 4th of July!

I have heard that it has something to do with scaring the birds.
Does Lakewood CC have a fireworks show? After the Dallas CC show last night I could hear the faint rumble of fireworks out that way.

Yes, Lakewood CC does have a fireworks show. To hell with the birds, it is still the ideal place to have a show IMO.

A friend of mine said that a good location to watch fireworks on the 4th at the Lake is either the Buckner overlook, the Norbuck Park tennis courts or Flag Pole Hill. From there you can see the fireworks at Royal Oaks CC on Royal, Dallas CC and Lakewood CC. Of course you would not get to be underneath them and feel the concussion of the fireworks but you would get 3-for-1.

I parked on Country Club off Gaston just like LW recommended for the Lakewood CC show.
Unlike Addison, they did the whole show. It rocked. The explosions were awesome.

We got a nice view from Covington @ Brookside. It was also convenient to help the elderly lady whose dog spooked, broke away, and hid in the shrubbery. It wasn't until I was in headfirst up to my waist in the photinia, with the dog's front legs in my hands, that I thought to ask "Is the dog friendly?"
"Usually," she said sweetly.
