View Full Version : DART Auction: Buy a (faux) trolley!

Ever wonder what happened to those "trolley buses" that DART tried out a while back? I guess they were trying for "authentic", but the only thing they got right was the 1890s-era heat, noise, and bumpy ride. There's something really, really cool about streetcars, but whatever it is, the designers didn't find it. But if you share their disdain for comfort, those hard bench seats can be yours!

Auction preview starts Friday, sale on Saturday
Don't miss DART's first-ever trolley-bus sale

Now you too can own your own trolley-bus. Come see DART in "auction," as trolley-buses, over-the-road and city-buses and other vehicles are sold to the highest bidder on Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m.

Get a sneak peak at the fleet Friday, March 3 from 9:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 4 from 8-10 a.m. at DART's South Oak Cliff Bus Operating Facility, 3422 E. Kiest Blvd. Trucks and vans will be available for preview at 201 N. Peak St.

Interested bidders can register for the auction Saturday from 8 – 10 a.m. at 201 N. Peak St. If you can't make the auction in person, online bidding is available at www.LoneStarAuctioneers.com or www.LoneStarOnline.com. Please visit those sites for online bidding requirements and payment information.

DART's last bus auction attracted hundreds of people including church groups, motor and charter companies and even international bus companies.

Contact DART Recovery Administrator, Don Walker, at 214-749-5211 for more information on the auction.

Example trolley bus listing: Lot: 59 - 1998 Chance Trolley (http://www.lonestaronline.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=824779886#TOP). Current bid is a paltry $1075 in the eBay-style phase, but that will just set the floor for the live auction on Saturday. Cashier's Check only -- Paypal not accepted. :)

What's going to move a lot faster than those trolley buses, literally and figuratively, will probably be the 20+ Ford Crown Victorias. Don't you hate it when you see a police car ahead, slow down, only to realize that it's nothing more than a civilian driving a Crown Vic? Now, you can watch as traffic parts to let you through! Note, however, that some have "minor" body damage (http://www.lonestaronline.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=824779853#TOP).

Bargain hunters: Is your garden gnome getting tired of standing up waiting for the Gnome Bus? Buy him a bench! several dozen heavy concrete DART benches (http://www.lonestaronline.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=824779913#TOP) can be yours -- it looks like the current bid is a scant $25 bucks for the lot. I'd actually try for these, but my wife would simply stack them over my grave (which she would start digging after hearing the answer to "You bought *what*?!").
