I've always wanted to start a thread where people could share the great deals they find in and around the Dallas market (res or retail). I know there are some ppl, like myself, that watch the market just for fun... On a personal note, My lease here at the Kirby will be up pretty soon and I'm considering three different areas.. Back to Deep Ellum, the Southside or even the Cliff.. I'd really like to give the Bishop Arts area a chance.. One thing I have learned here at the Kirby.. The high-rise lifestyle is cool, but I am mos def a drafty old warehouse kinda guy... I miss it.. With the high-rise gig, you lose a certain amount of privacy.. You ride the elevator with these ppl, you pass them in the hallway... stuff like that...

Anyway.. I'm looking for a decent amount of square footage in the darkest, most dank hole you can find.. *Needs Work* is ok.. I like a fix-er-upper.. Don’t care what the neighborhood is like..Even if none of you decide to participate, I'll be listing all of my findings here from now on.. I look forward to your feedback..

Love the idea...might actually come in handy for me. Though I'm not sure I'm through with downtown, I'm not in love with my unit. I think I need lower ceilings, a bigger bathtub, and a smaller rent payment...something a little more "home-y". My lease is up in May, so I'm going to start looking around now. Just out of curiosity, Ninja, when is your lease up?

May.. but if I find the right place I'll put money down early..

If anybody has some lofts or cool apartments in the dallas area they want to add to this, now would be a good time. I'm looking!!!

And if anybody wants a loft in The Davis Building, mine will be open. I'll try to get some pics of it up this week.

Thanks for the info Ninja. I actually found one that's perfect for me at The Gibson Company Lofts (http://thegibsonco.com/lofts_for_lease.asp).

It's looks like I found someone to sublet my apartment as well. If everything goes according to plan, I'll be moving this weekend. Now I'll just have a lot of packing to do. YIKES!!!

It's good to hear great things about this place. I already have a couple of friends that live there, so that's always good too.

I'm really excited about my loft. It's about 900 sf, but feels much bigger than my 874 sf loft at The Davis. It's an "L" shaped loft on the first floor of 4140 Commerce and faces the courtyard. And my parking spot in the garage will be about 100 ft away from my front door. No more taking 2 elevators and winding through garages and hallways. YEAH!!! AND my paintings and photography are going to look in in this loft too.

(continued from the daily digital)

on a somewhat depressing note, I was just told that I couldn't have the mini-penthouse after all... supposedly, its because of the takeover and the uncertainty of what the future holds for this particular unit, but I know that's not the case (and thats ok).. #1 I'm an employee, so I get a fairly hefty discount on rent.. #2 my 2nd choice (shown below) is a mother to lease.. its known as "the dungeon" or "the cave".. which is perfect for me because I work nights.... its on the second floor and has an atrium view.. i.e. no view whatsoever.. and with only three windows and other floors on top of me, little to no light gets in this place.... on the plus side, its massive... 1153 sq ft, and with my discount I'm paying right under 70 cents per sq...which is fantastic... concrete floors and custom paint.. super high ceilings and a few other perks that make up for its shortcomings.... the point is, they would rather have me in the cave (which is cool), than put me up in the mini-penthouse when they can lease it at full stroke- easy.. make sense? yeah.... anyway.. i'm still stoked....

I don't know why they call it a 2 bedroom... its really only a 1/1... the bedroom being located on the far right.... however, the closet you see on the far left is big enough to fit a queen size bed comfortably... also, there has been a custom bar built that turns the kitchen into a U shape as apposed to its current L shape.. which is cool… I look forward to all the space..( the buildings previous maintenance guy lived here for a few years, so he's worked on it quite a bit...custom touches here and there...) this will feel huge compared to my current 580 sqft box... but man i'm gonna miss that 10th floor main st view.

I've already checked out the roof top deck. I would never agree to rent apartment without a FULL tour. I'm very excited about this move. It's just happening a lot faster than I thought. Now I have to find boxes so I get pakced and moved this weekend.

Looks like your new place is going to be perfect for you as well. I'm glad everyone is so happy and shiny right now.

I'M IN!!! I actually have some pics I was going to post. I think I might like this loft better than my loft at The Davis Building. Granted I don't really have a view anymore, but the layout is perfect for me and entertaining guests. I'll see if I get those pics up asap.
