I lost my toy poodle of 13 years yesterday.

I am such a softy (sp?) when it comes to death and I know this is going to take me a long time to get over.

Can anyone else share their experiences with losing a pet and how you coped with it?

I was 12. I cried for two days.

Sorry that's not much help, is it?

Just spend as much time with people as you can. Being alone, when you're used to having a pet... really sucks.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I've only recently become an "animal person" and when I have nightmares of my pets getting hurt (actually, my famly's pets, not mine) I wake up so disgusted and sad. So I can imagine how you feel.

My friends have gone through it with pets they had as long as you did, and they say they just cried for a while. They still keep pictures out and remember them. It's really sweet and sad, I know.

Sorry to hear of you loss. When my dog died a few years back, felt down for a few days, then after a couple weeks went to my local pound and found a new dog. My old dog can never be replaced but fiqured I could give another dog a nice home.

Im hoping to get to that point.

I was over attached to her and she knew it.

I miss her so much.

It takes time. There's no easy way to deal with it. You'll always have your memories of her.

My 12-year-old Weimaraner, Roscoe, died January 17th. He was the best dog I ever had and there have been many (don't tell my 16-year-old Dachsund/Shepard mix -- yes, really she's one of a kind). He slept with me every night.

I cried the first day or two and now I seem to be doing OK. I have a feeling it's going to hit me when I least expect it. I'm sure my friends are expecting drunken, sobbing phone calls at any time.

I'm sorry for your loss.

The death of a pet sucks. I guess I'm lucky that the last pet of mine to die was a cat over 11 years ago. My current cats are 14 & 15 years old. I am not looking forward to the day(s) they die.

We had to put one of my wife's cats to sleep the first year we were married. He had complicated health issues. Fixing one issue would exacerbate the other, and vice versa, so we felt it better to not have him suffer. I got over it fairly quickly (I'd only known him 2 years), but Cynthia took longer. She still misses him, as do I. Her other cat took it hard, too. Whenever she hears his name, she'll go looking for him.

There will always be a spot in your heart where your poodle will live on.

That is too bad. I lost one a year ago on February 25th, I had her for 12 years. Lucky for me I had two so I still have one to take care of but it still was not easy and was much harder on him than I expected. He was depressed for days but eventually readjusted to being the center of attention and is today an extremely happy dog. Hope you will be able to get another one soon. I know it is hard but I always think of the life they don't have if they are not adopted.
