A chain link fence went up a few days ago surrounding the large tract of land located on the southeast corner of Henderson and Belmont. There used to be an older apartment complex on the land that was demolished a few months ago. Does anyone know what is going on?

It was for sale and had a Newt Walker sign on it, which was removed not long ago. I assume it has sold.
There's quite a lot of townhome/duplex/McMansion activity going up around there -- a lot of them are "Epic Homes" -- anyone know of this builder?
I have not heard anything about this tract from the Cochran Heights Homeowners association, and I get the emails and attend meetings regularly.

Steve Brown's column today says that Perry will build 30 townhomes on this site...I imagine the apartment complex across the street will also fall soon if this is so...

Apartment buildings that were previously on the site were auctioned by the IRS. I think the winning bidder paid $1-1.5 MM. He got a great deal for the size.
For LW:
Epic Homes is out of Plano. They have built a good amount of stuff in Lower Greenville. ... it's McMansion type but a better finished product.

There's another large block of land on Henderson between there and Ross that has been cleared for some time except for one house --- anyone know the status of this?

More McMansions I think. Someone called Epic Homes. If you think that's crazy, consider it's better than the CVS/KFC Perry McMansions at Mockingbird and Skillman.

I'm talking about further down towards McMillan (south of Cuquita's)...
There's one two-three story entrance arch on one of those Epic homes that is driving me nuts. Looks Allen-ish...

Me too. It is painful to drive by that architectural disaster on a daily basis - not too fond of Epic homes.

Not big on Bishop Abbey either. They've built three McMansions on my street in the last year and their crews like to use my yard as a dumping ground for all their detritus. I even found some drywall and construction junk in MY garbage can in the alley. Isn't that against the law?

There's another builder with a big sign on the corner of Belmont and Madera (the next street east of Henderson), I think it said JDL homes. I guess they have big plans if they've torn down the house on the corner and put such a large sign on it...

Henderson from 75 to Ross will completely turnover in the next few years.

File a lawsuit, get some cash and throw a big forum party.

Great news.
Drove by there tonight on my way to dinner and was wondering how that lot was still empty. (Also, what ever happened to the Jake's Hamburgers that was supposed to go in on the north side of the street?)

I think the sign said coming Spring '11 or maybe it was Summer. Looking at the lot not sure how they will have much parking on it. Maybe they will use the main valet for Henderson at Shops of Henderson when they have overflow. Hopefully they keep the trees on the lot. I'm not a big fan of Jake's---Angry Dog as the best burgers IMO--but I will go there I'm sure as well.

I don't think the jake's sign indicated a specific time frame but I hope it is soon. Parking will be an issue - but isn't that true with any urban area?

Interesting on the 2nd link--the client asked not to have a parking garage to keep rental rates lower. Looks good from the design.

These absolutely have to be the ugliest urban apartments built in Dallas in the last 10 years.

Really? I don't think those apartments are that bad. They're certainly unique compared to a lot of the other "urban" apartment buildings that have gone up recently, and I've definitely seen some that are worse.

They certainly look unique and I'm glad they built something different from the standard urban box built around a parking garage and shaded pool.

I agree. After seeing some of the urban developments in other cities, every development in DFW looks pretty much the same.

You obviously missed the renovated Robin Hood development on west NW Highway before it eventually got torn down. Loved the turrets!
