View Full Version : Name change for Industrial Blvd?

I think the city is considering changing the name of Industrial Blvd, has anybody heard about this? I caught the tail end of this story on the radio today. This may have something to do with the Trinity River Corridor development and Industrial Blvd. is not appropriate anymore for the area.

What appropriate name would you consider?

I would reconsider the name Industrial. It's a fine word.

I'd name it Dallas-Trinity-River-Project-Not-A-Highway-Project Blvd...........or Elitist Avenue.....or DallasMetropolis Avenue...or No-Crime-Here Blvd......oooh or Bail-Bond Parkway....or nevermind

Just kidding. I like really do like Neiman Marcus Avenue or something that incorporates Neimans. It is the least the city can do for such a strong BRAND staying in Dallas through thick and thin. If Neimans left when the others did, I think DTD would be even further behind the curve than it is now. Just my opinion.

How about "Trinity Parkway" or is that name already taken?

I know someone who works with Neimans.. and he said that Needless Markup charges so freaking much for everything, that there isn't even a thought of giving up their flagship store. It isn't the highest-per-sf store.. that's Northpark.. but it certainly gets TONS of old-money shoppers. Tons. Tons.

Maybe if something crappy was given the name 'Neiman,' the Neimans would pitch in to clean it up to keep their name squeaky clean :)

Both. The eastbound lanes would be Laura Miller Ln, and the westbound lanes would be Hunt Blvd. The only time they would actually meet is when someone wants to (be) cross, or when there's a head-on collision.

Trinity Parkway is the least creative- plus I think every other city that the Trinity runs through already has a Trinity Parkway.

We should just give up and sell naming rights. It's the "IN" thing to do- we already have most of the bridges bought and named, why not every other aspect of the thing? Maybe we could change names every year- so it could be Schepp's Dairy Blvd one year, then the next year it could be Dr Pepper Lane, then after that it could be Ikea Avenue........we could use the proceeds to maintain the road.

Would help with the sale of maps. One would have to purchase a new one every year. Though it would suck to live or work on the road. Having a new address every year. Calling all your vendors to give them your new address. Some how I dont think the idea will take.

In another thread, I wondered what Dallas street would be most appropriate to name for Rosa Parks... perhaps this would be the one? She was a seamstress -- a working woman, like the waitresses at Mama's Daughter's Diner on Industrial. For some reason, that makes it seem like a good candidate... it's not a street paved with gold, it's an everyday, working road. Symbolically, each of us is just one ordinary person... just like Rosa Parks.

Sadly, though, DART's planned commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks' taking a seat doesn't seem to be filtering through to the riders who benefit from her legacy. On the 165 and 344 this morning, there was no seat reserved... and on the 183 from Downtown, the sign honoring Ms. Parks was ignored by a gentleman who simply sat on it. The driver tried to convince him to get up, but he remained. I guess my generation has no memory of a time when I'd have been assigned that seat -- and he'd have been sent to the back -- based on an accident of pigmentation.

I wonder why we never dedicated a John F. Kennedy road in Dallas.

Actually, according to the FY05 numbers I just saw, Northpark is #3 in sales per square foot, based either on sales sq ft or building sq ft, behind Los Angeles (#1) & Tyson's Galleria in Virginia (#2). Downtown comes in at #33 (total building sq ft) or tied for #29 (sales sq ft).

I like the Lee Harvey Oswald Blvd. Either that or Dead President Lane.

A few other options
Aids Street.
Metrosexual Way.
Back of the Bus Blvd.

Are these shocking enough?

I think they should leave the name alone. I mean really, who does that?
More Dallas politics at its best... change the name and ignore the problems. Lipstick on a pig.

bigger and better?!?!

I kinda like the street being named Industrial, especially as the neighborhood becomes less industrial.

They'll change it because they do stuff like that in Dallas and get rid of history.

I think it was created when the Trinity was re-routed away from DT, and it has been called Industrial since the late 1930s.
