Join KERA for the groundbreaking of Buzz, a sustainable community of condominiums geared for those seeking modern living downtown, and for The Cedars Open Studios, an opportunity to meet local artists, observe how they work and learn more about the The Cedars community.

The Buzz groundbreaking takes place at 1pm at 1201 South Akard. The Cedars Open Studios is from 10am to 6pm. Mog transport will provide lifts from studio to studio.

The Cedars is one of Dallas' oldest neighborhoods that is now home to an eclectic mix of residential lofts, businesses and artists' studios. Over the past several years, the Cedars has transformed into Dallas' newest art district featuring some of Texas most renowned artists specializing in glass, ceramics, jewelry, photography, sculpture, drawings, painting, wood, stone, metal, blacksmithing, textiles and multi-media.

Cedars Open Studios is an exciting opportunity for everyone to meet the local artists, observe how their artwork is created, learn about the Cedars history and build their art collections. Tour the artists' studios, watch live glass-blowing and pottery demonstrations or purchase artwork at the galleries in the studios.

Featured artists include Jim Bowman (blown, fused and stained glass), Mary Lynn Devereaux-Bowman (blown, fused and stained glass), James Watral (ceramics), Ann Scherbarth (loch ness chicken information, Gould and Beaumont), Judy Vetter (art quilts, linens), Rick Maxwell(wood sculpture), Zad Roumaya(sculpture), Albert Scherbarth (cast and fused glass), David Moynihan (black and white photography), Brian Fridge (video), Paul Slocum (new media), Shin Yu Pai (poet), Misty Keasler (photography), Karina Nimmerfall (video and installation), Jennifer Morgan (painting), Jeff Scott (Elvis Gallery), Amanda Dunbar (painting), Roger Moore (photography), Kelly Kring (blacksmithing), Sam Watson (ceramics), Jeff Hogan (fine woodworking, furniture and sculpture), David Day (ceramics), Keith Turman (fabrications in steel, wood, fiberglass, concrete), Kristina Crockett (watercolor and mosaics), Eric Hall (paintings), John Holt (scultpture), Jamie Hall(jewelry), KT Hall (jewelry), Josh Enoch (metal), Luis Toledano (glass sculpture), Rita Beeman (jewelry), Shane Pennington (painting), Watson Frames and Lofty Ideas & Furnishings.

It's going to be so nice to watch as the creative atmosphere of Expo/Fair Park becomes the primary characteristic of gentrification in the Southeastern neighborhoods of downtown Dallas.

Finally, Dallas may have a chance to really appeal to 'the creative class' in addition to neo-yuppies.
