My hubby is graduating from LSU in December, we are moving to the DFW area so I can attend UTA. How is the job market in the DFW area and what are the major companies in the area. He will be receiving a degree in Sociology/History and has 4 years of experience as a network administrator and has his A+ Certification. Also what are the best school districts and/or schools in the area. Thank you in advance. :)

Most Dallasites are jealous of Frisco beause it is

a) clean
b) safe
c) crime-free
d) enjoying a robust economy thanks to all of the companies that were smart enough to get out of Dallas
e) home to one of the state's best school systems

You can't go wrong with Frisco.

Ok, now I'll be serious. Below is a link that will give you info on cities and schools. I think that if you are young you would have a lot of fun living in the Uptown/downtown area of Dallas. If you are boring, live in Frisco. :)

If you enjoy rape, murder and robberies, by all means move to Dallas.

Are you guys retarted, or did you just not read her post? She's going to be getting her master's at UTA. That's in Arlington for you idots who are suggesting she look in Frisco. She'd be spending over an hour everyday in the car each way. And thats IF 121 isn't clogged up.

Look, FutureRN, my wife and I moved here in 2001 from Louisiana. Your husband will have no trouble finding work no matter what part of town y'all move to. For your sake, I'd look around the Flower Mound/Coppell area. Good schools, safe neighborhoods, nice homes, and there are tons of companies close by in Las Colinas and in Addison along the tollway. I'd stay out of Lewisville, Arlington, or Irving south of 635. Also, I'd stay out of Farmer's Branch and Carrollton. North Dallas is okay between Marsh Lane and White Rock Lake, but you'd still have a haul to get to school and the DISD isn't know for it's quality school system.

Most of the people on this board hate suburbs (especially Frisco), so I wouldn't listen to what most of them say anyway.

BTW, for obvious reasons, the DFW area has a very large and very active LSU Alumni Association. Their web site is www.lsudfwalumni.com (http://www.lsudfwalumni.com/). I'd suggest you guys join up and network through them. Saturday nights at Ben's Half Yard House for the LSU games is a good time!

Frisco --- Crime Free--- Thanks for the laugh. Obviously you haven't been watching News 8 lately or realized that crime follows people anywhere especially in new developing areas.

Anyway. Your good school districts are going to be (and I am sure I will forget some) Plano ISD is always very highly ranked, Highland Park, Richardson (traditionally setting high standards for SAT), North Richland Hills, Frisco (but lots of changing around and is trying to build on Plano's program seeing that the adminstrators come from Plano), Carrolton- Farmer's Branch, .... For public its hard to go wrong in the North Dallas areas. As far as companies, I would suggest contacting the Chamber of Commerce of these cities. CIty of Dallas has a good guide for the major companies in the DFW area. And Dallas, IMO, is the most interesting place. But look in the Lake Highlands area because of the RISD connection or locate in Dallas but look at private schools for your kids.

My bad. I thought that was UT-Anna. I would still recommend Frisco.

I agree with GT. Your best bet may be in Tarrant County.

Future RN, there are good public schools in Dallas in the North and East Dallas areas. These are convenient to Baylor, Presbyterian, Methodist and Medical City Hospitals. Also there are quite an array of magnet schools in DISD

A lot of Baylor Hospital employees live in the East Dallas/Lakewood (between Downtown and White Rock Lake). Our high school, Woodrow Wilson had 3 National Merit Semifinalists this year, while the two larger Frisco schools had 2 and 1.

You can easily get on I-30 in East Dallas, and a lot of the work on the road will be finished soon. I would say you could get to UTA in 20-30 minutes if you aren't in heavy traffic.

Our dear Columbus Civil has a unique sense of humor, that's why we love him so much.

Rent an apartment in Arlington near UTA for a year. Within that time you'll figure the area.

My company is hiring for an IT position about 10 to 15 minutes away from UTA. PM me for more info.

You're nobody 'til somebody loves you
You're nobody 'til somebody cares.
You may be king, you may possess the world and it's gold,
But gold won't bring you happiness when you're growing old.
The world still is the same, you never change it,
As sure as the stars shine above;
You're nobody 'til somebody loves you,
So find yourself somebody to love.

The world still is the same, you never change it,
As sure as the stars shine above;
You're nobody 'til somebody loves you,
So find yourself somebody, find yourself somebody,
Find yourself somebody to love.

Job market is much better than the Lousianna area that's for sure. If you are going to UTA then yes, living in Coppel and FLowermound would be your best bet.
