When and where did the first Boeing 747 visit Dallas?

By the way, I also came across an article with a photo of an American Airlines 747. I think it was in 1973. Does anyone know when AA quit using 747s in favor of DC-10s?

'Quite a Machine'

A 747 made a brief appearance New Year's Day, swooping over the Cotton Bowl game, but returned to Houston without landing.

Times have changed. It took four months for news of this flying machine to make the Dallas paper.

American actually used 747SPs out of DFW pending arrival of the MD-11 into the early 1990s for routes to Japan and the Far East. The SPs were ex-TWA and were also used on the American flights to London Heathrow and other European destinations.

The first batch of 747s (747-100s) that American took delivery of in 1970 were phased out of service in 1984.
