My earliest memory is seeing Star Wars in the theater in 1977 when I was 3.
I still have all of my original action figures.
I got my picture taken with Darth Vader when I was 6. I look so scared!
When I turned 7, I got a note from Luke Skywalker wishing me a happy birthday. My dad actually wrote the note, but I didn't figure that out until I was about 13.
I never did really get into Episodes I and II, though. I'll probably watch III just to complete the series.
Going to a 5:25 showing tomorrow night after work. Can't wait. Gary Cogill liked it and he has a pretty reasonable taste in movies, so my hopes are high!

just saw it.
pardon the french, but
it was f**ing awesome. best star wars film? not by a long shot. most fun? quite possibly. best prequel? unquestionably.
my favorites go ESB by far at #1, then way behind, probably ANH, ROTJ, and ROTS all about the same, then another big break, TPM, then a huge break to the bottom of the barrel with the second prequel, which was so bad i cant even remember its name.
ROTS succeeds in spite of its shitty special fx (Lucas should be banned from using CGI. he doesnt know how to use it to enhance, only to make all of his movies into computer games) and sometimes cheesy outbursts. The humor works entirely this time, mainly because it almost all comes from R2, and the action is... unbelievable. More importantly, though, Anakin really becomes an interesting character worthy of a three film biography. it's too bad only his final chapter is worth watching.
but seriously, goddammit, why can't lucas build some freaking sets? the CGI pillars look like absolute shit! if the actors and emotions weren't so compelling, they'd distract the audience inexscusably from the important bits...
end of rant, basically, go see this. Lucas has finally re-learned how to make movies, now he just needs to stop his mental ma*****ation through CGI...

BTW, I'm really more of a Lost in Space fan (not the movie!).

I really like the monkey/creature thing they picked along the way as a pet, especially the sound it made. The robot is still my favorite character, and like, the episode when Will Robinson somehow gets traped inside the robot to find all these mobile devices the robot developed (like an ulcer!!) to destroy Dr. Smith. Penny - what a dork.

I didn't see the first two at NP, but I saw the premiere of the Return of the Jedi there. I still vividly remember it since it was the debut of NP I's new sound system... and the first time I ever saw it sold out! I also saw a triple feature of all three at NP sometime in the 90's... I can't remember the year. I wonder if that means I'm getting old? ;-)

Excuse me, but why was the robot coughing?
Sorry. It was great. Depressing, yet absolutely great.

I was trying to figure out if Grievous's cough was because of what Mace did to him in Clone Wars. Clones Wars was deemed official by Lucas and RoTS started right where it left off.
BTW, I loved the movie. I can't decide if its my favorite or second favorite.

SPOILER ALERT Lots of cool stuff in this one (the city planet always amazes me), and some not so cool stuff (the fight on the lava flow looked really cheesy).
Seriously, what redeemed this movie for me and made me appreciate it all the more was its adherance to one rule. If you break the Jedi code, you must pay a price. If it is Anakin breaking the vow of celibacy and allowing his mind to become clouded and fearful, or if it was Windu choosing vigilantism instead of justice. Even the Jedi council itself strayed from the code, and payed an ultimate price.

Any comments on Palpatine's emperor-rhetoric's resemblance to a certain sitting president?? (ex: "You're with us or against us" or maybe his call to sacrifice the free republic for the cause of "safety and security")
Just trying to stir a few people up out there. lol.

I saw Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back at NorthPark I & II too.
I saw the first Star Wars at the standalone single-screen theater at Southroads Mall in Tulsa. It was a box building in the parking lot. There were two or three more screens in a separate building nearby, but the one by itself, with the word "CINEMA" in huge red letters, was where the big movies were shown. Of course, the old singleplex was eventually torn down -- I don't know if the AMC Southroads 20 (http://www.mrmovietimes.com/movie-theaters/AMC-Southroads-20.html) was built on the site, but the address puts it pretty close.
I saw The Empire Strikes Back at the Ridglea Theater (http://cinematreasures.org/theater/1818/) in Fort Worth, while visiting my mom. At least it met a better fate and is still an entertainment venue (http://www.ridgleatheater.com/).
I saw Return of the Jedi at a multiplex near Tulsa's Woodland Hills Mall, which while small by today's standards, was clearly a harbinger of things to come.
Parts I and II -- watched on DVD. :)
Side note: searching on Woodland Hills brought up this thread on another board: What do you remember? (http://www.tulsanow.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1750). I can't believe how much of what I grew up with is grey or gone -- Eastland Mall was just completed when I graduated in '85, and is now on the Dead Malls.com list. A whole generation of retail has been born and died since I graduated high school. Of course, this means that it's almost time for senior discounts! Woo hoo!

My friend and I were commenting that such rhetoric could have been at home at many points in history. Not just with Bush. Remember, Lucas is a WWII historian.
Thinking back on the whole saga, ROTS really gives you perspective on Anakin for the whole saga. Darth Vader has always been my favorite. Before this movie, you just think he's a bad dude who is maybe getting old, and wants to turn his son to the Dark Side. After seeing ROTS, you really can see the kid that just wanted to be loved and be able to hold onto it. You can really see that Ruthless Darth Vader really thinks that he is not only right, but really thinks he is the key to peace, and really sees the Dark Side as a means to save loved ones. Really great stuff. Entertaing for those that don't know anything about the saga, yet super meaningful for fans like myself. Definitely the most emotional of the saga.
And spot on about the Jedi discipline. It makes you feel for Yoda. Palps called him on his arrogance and lack of vision, and he paid for it. Lesson: If you're a jedi, stick to the code.
Anyone else think the droid voices were hilarious?

SPOILER WARNING
I think the droids were comic relief. Roger Roger.
The robot was coughing because he was a cyborg or something (part alien creature/part robot). Look close when they zoom his eyes and you will see flesh.
I noticed the parallels with the current war on terror, hard to miss it when the quote is so close.
What's the deal with the siths - lord and apprentice? When they were talking about Darth Maul in Episode I, I thought they meant that you would always see them in pairs. I didn't think they meant that there are always only two siths at any given time. There is a website devoted to this question, so it is apparently a common question.

Watch the Clone Wars series from Cartoon Network. Before the end of the last episode he did not have any cough whatsoever. Just went around wielding multiple sabres at everyone. After he had said his last words in the last show, he was whisking Palpatine away in a ship. Mace Windu saw this and raced after the ship, making a huge high leap to catch ship. He missed. Just before that leap, Mace force CRUSHED Grievouses lungs/bowels/or whatever and Grievous let out a big yell. Lucas says the Clone Wars series is part of the official story so I guess that counts.
For those that haven't seen the cartoon series, notice Anakin's mechanical hand. Much better shape now. He wrecked the other one jumping onto this huge beam laser thing that was mutilating these blue cat people. We also see when 3PO becomes gold(if you didn't notice, he's shiny gold in ROTS and not AOTC). We also know Anakin likes eating bugs and has killed before with a Sith saber and can use the force with incredible strength using is cut off arm. That series should have been Episode II.
The Sith are to always be master and apprentice. From what I can tell, the master and the apprentice needs to be killed or they will seek another. The Apprentice could look for an apprentice, but like does not have the necessary experience to be a master. Notice that the new apprentice much always kill the old to become that apprentice or the apprentice must kill the master to be master. We have examples of that in Anakin killing Dooku, Assaj Ventriss trying to beat Dooku in Clone Wars( when she lost then sent her to find Anakin, knowing it was merely a test for Anakin and that he would kill her). .

It might be a while for the DVD. I think the last one came out in Nov. I'm hoping they combine the two into one movie. Its about 2hr total anyways and would make a better movie than eps I or II.
The animation is great. I believe the people that do Samurai Jack and Dexter's Lab are the animators. It really translates greatly to Star Wars.
There are other cool things about Clone Wars. The way they show the troopers is very cool. Not just mindless soldiers, but some special forces type missions as well with the Arc Troopers. The war feels more like an actual war with fronts all over the galaxy. You also get to see how and where lightsabers are made. One of the best things about it are the Jedi actions. Even in the new movies you don't get to see as much. You really get to see Mace and Yoda's speed and power. You also see how powerful Grievous and his droids are in comparison to average Jedi as opposed to the Anakin and Obi Wan's of the world.

Palpatine rocks. It's all about Force Lightning!
It was nice to finally (and very, very briefly) see Alderaan...it kinda looked like Switzerland from when I traveled through there. Sad that it gets nuked by the Death Star in ANH. Sweet seeing the Death Star under construction with younger Tarkin overseeing construction. Yoda was great as always. Yoda did his damndest to try and save the undeserving Republic (did you see the way all the senators-- save Bail, Mon Mothma, and Padme-- just cheered and applauded Palpy crowning himself Emperor?!? Idiots. They deserve everything that's coming!) Anakin & Padme are both losers...what's up with this "dying of a broken heart" mess?!? I mean, the medical droid said she was fine...c'mon! She should have at least stuck around for her kids. Screw Anakin. I mean, she's a bad Mom, no question. But the visuals made up for the cheesy stuff and the sometimes soap opera acting (what was that surreal Vader "Noooooooo!" about...Vader is cold as ice...he would have just said 'I have disposed of the Naboo woman for treason, my master' not all that whining. Anakin whined for the last three movies. What else? Obi-Wan looked hot as hell. Love the beard. He was even graying a little...poor Obi. Anakin's one ungrateful little twit.
Overall, I dug it.

As we have learned, Vader is anything but cold as ice. Before the prequels he was my favorite bad guy. Super cool, very deliberate, and just plain mean. Now we understand that he is not only NOT cold as ice, but when he wanted Luke to turn for the Dark Side, he really did love Luke and think the Dark Side was the best way for him as well as the galaxy to go.

I saw this last night. Great movie overall, but where did all the emotion come from? This has got to be the saddest of the 6. Seriously, people were like crying around me.
Also, when Anakin gets his new Darth Vadar suit, it looked straight outa the 70s with the little control panel on his chest even though the rest of the movie was technologically advanced. I guess thats what happens when you make a series 20 years apart.
