^I knew the tallest building in the world would end up in Houston.

We had two close calls back in the 80s. Darn oil crash...

A lot of people don't like the Mark (or at least a lot of HAIF members) but I kind of like it. Has sort of a Florida theme going. The building that is indisputably the ugliest in Houston is the Mercer Tower, that thin, bareback monstrosity on S. Rice just above Richmond.

Do you have a picture of this "Bleck!" tower?

OH! I have seen that tower. Isn't that over by the Galleria? It looked like something that belongs in the middle of a very crowded downtown somewhere. Something you squeeze in on a narrow piece of property.

You are right. The real problem with the tower is that the front view is actually inviting, with nice, symetrical lines and a good color scheme. However, the back is as plain as it gets, with a spare number of windows arranged into long, boring vertical lines on either end of the building, with this large, featureless void of sheetmetal in the middle. Yucky.

It would've been disguised much better downtown.

I actually was in the EDI Architecture office with the designers of the building last summer, and didn't really know what to say... in a bad way... so i said what everybody else surely says, which is, "what's up with that? can't you paint a Yao Ming down the back?"

maybe something will be built across from the bad side and make it better
