With a little help from google.com (http://www.google.com):
Concord Missionary Baptist Church was founded on Sunday, June 29, 1975, under the leadership of Dr. E. K. Bailey and 230 charter members. Dr. Bailey was an incredible preacher and pastor, with an enormous heart, for God and His people. As a visionary, he laid the foundation of our past, on which we now rest our present, in order to build our future. source (http://www.concorddallas.org/whoweare.html)

Wow how weird, I saw this yesterday driving down Camp Wisdom and for some reason the street stood out to me. Since I saw the sign, I'm gonna say that the name change has already taken place..

This should help attract retail to the area.

I saw a news report about it last night. Apparently he founded the church, was a mentor for a bunch of ministers, helped the community a lot, etc., etc. The report said he died recently of cancer.

I have no problem honoring a good citizen with a street name if and when that makes sense. I would just ask that this not create another Dallas tradition of having streets change names as they pass through different neighborhoods. It's very confusing and does nothing to help an area connect to the rest of the city.
And to CC's point, taken a little more seriously, a lot of businesses get nervous when their address is suddenly named after less revered figures. In Memphis, there was a drive to rename Chelsea Ave as Isaac Hayes Blvd. And while I might have LOVED to live on Isaac Hayes Blvd., a lot of residents thought that was not a suitable address to lure additional business. The proposal never made it out of the city council.

It's good to have streets that have only one name.
This reminds me of a street that goes east/west
In Garland and Plano it's "Park"
In Carrollton it's "Hebron Pkwy"
In Lewisville it's "Round Grove Rd"
In Flower Mound it's "FM 3040" and "Flower Mound Rd"

In Garland and Plano it's "Park"
In Carrollton it's "Hebron Pkwy"
In Lewisville it's "Round Grove Rd"
In Flower Mound it's "FM 3040" and "Flower Mound Rd"
But the road's various names reflect the fact that it was never planned to be connected. The streets just growed together, and no town (*) is going to say "oh, well I like Carrollton's name better". Even within town, some of the changing names make sense. Inwood Road changes to Hampton Road because they wouldn't have met without crossing the Trinity. Westmoreland turns into Mockingbird in the same way, and Mockingbird in turn becomes Peavy Rd after crossing the northern fringes of White Rock Lake.
What's more frustrating to me is a street that keeps the same name, but doesn't connect. Wycliffe Ave. is a pet peeve of mine -- if it weren't for the discontinuity at Dallas Market Hall, it would feed Uptown directly into Kessler Park via Sylvan. Of course, that brings up the longest string of street names that I can find within a single city: Wycliff - Sylvan - Tyler - Polk/Tyler (one-way pair) - Vernon - Polk.
* No town? Well, Grand Prairie may be the exception. In the mid-90's, they renamed 8th Street to Belt Line Road, and Myers Road (IIRC) to MacArthur, to standardize with Irving. This coincided with the new intersection at I-30 and MacArthur. They had to rename another MacArthur to a numbered street, and I think they found a new home for the "Myers" designation (though I can't find it, so I may have the name wrong).

Wycliff - Sylvan - Tyler - Polk/Tyler (one-way pair) - Vernon - Polk. Then get outta Dallas and this street gets unbelievably hairy.
Pierce becomes W Red Oak Road
W Red Oak breaks continuity at I-35E
Red Oak Road curves into Uhl
Uhl becomes Polk at Parkerville Road
Polk
Vernon
Polk/Tyler
Tyler
Sylvan
Wycliff
Wycliff/Douglas 1-way split
Wycliff/Avondale 1-way split (Douglas becomes Avondale)
Fitzhugh [End of Parkway Status]
Then.. it could be argued that the majority of the traffic flow breaks onto Bennet in a confusing little interchange..
so Bennet..
Which breaks into Collet Ave
Which, in a sense, joins with Munger
Which becomes Barry
Which becomes Crosstown Expy
Which becomes FITZHUGH!
Which finally ends in Robert B Cullum Blvd.
So. Final listing:
Pierce
W Red Oak
Uhl
Polk
Vernon
Polk/Tyler
Tyler
Sylvan
Wycliff
Wycliff/Douglas
Wycliff/Avondale
Fitzhugh
Bennet
Collet
Munger
Barry
Crosstown Expy
Fitzhugh
YAHOO! Good look giving directions.

Agreed that it gets very confusing when streets randomly change names on different stretchs...I have a limited sense of direction without added confusion! I also get confused by streets that are right by each other with the same name and different suffixes, like Morning Drive, Morning Lane, Morning Ctr....all in the same place. I definitely see the appeal of a numbered system!

^^ i tend to agree, rock. Cities like Kansas City, Houston, Seattle have very impressive numbered streets. It wood just b cool to have numbered streets in Dallas.
BTW - welcome to the forum, rock!! :)

I'd like to see a Rosa Parks Ave. in Dallas... but I'd want it to be on a major route that serves both black and white neighborhoods. Any suggestions?

That just might be the ideal candidate. Back in the early or mid '90s, there was a move to rename Illinois to Malcolm X Blvd. The name was opposed for various reasons (though how it ended up in Deep Ellum I have yet to figure out). But it would be great for a Rosa Parks Ave -- not already named after a person, and it serves communities of all colors.
Now, it's up to y'all to get someone interested -- remember, I live out in the sticks, so the only Horseshoe that I can talk to is the one hanging on the fencepost.

I'm sure there's more intelligent discussion with that horseshoe than in the one in Dallas.

What's more frustrating to me is a street that keeps the same name, but doesn't connect.
Westmoreland does this. It stops at Wheatland and then is picked up again down at Danieldale. From there it keeps going until just outside the Waxahachie city limits.

Glad this topic came up again. I suggested in another thread that when the Routh/Good-Latimer intersection with Bryan becomes an intersection with Old Central Expressway, that the following streets should be renamed Ann Richards Boulevard:
Maple
Maple-Routh Connector
Routh
Good
Latimer
Of course, only Maple is really eligible for renaming, because the rest are named *for* somebody. Routh may be ok, since there will still be a piece of Routh St. left. But I think the city would have to find some other streets to name for Mr. Good and Mr. Latimer, which might be difficult. And there's the little problem of Routh St. having a certain cachet as a street name.
Perhaps the city could dual-banner the route, with Ann Richard Boulevard signs posted along with the "official" street name.
