Well, I guess we were right about the new Cowboy stadium being perceived as in Dallas by the outside world - thanks, Arlington taxpayers...

FORT WORTH, Texas - O'Reilly 300 Busch Series race T-shirts with "Dallas, Texas" as the location of the Texas Motor Speedway instead of Fort Worth have been recalled after hundreds of Tarrant County residents contacted the company to complain. <IBS_TAG id=4379379 type="survey" width="150"></IBS_TAG>O?Reilly Auto Parts said it was "a stupid mistake," not done on purpose, and the company is committed to making it right.

<HR>Live Poll:<LINK id=4379379 type=survey popup_height="380" popup_width="280">Agree With T-Shirt Recall?

Fort Worth City Councilman Jim Lane started the complaint campaign, and said the good citizens of Fort Worth accept the apology.

Mayor Mike Moncrief also supported the letter writing campaign, saying he was also offended by the oversight.

Lord, FW is such a Dallas suburb--get over it.Is St. Paul a suburb of Minneapolis? No.

Given that Fort Worth has its own freeway loop, a well defined downtown core, and was included as a priority in the interstate planning system (that is, a road HAD to go through Fort Worth and a road HAD to go through Dallas, but not necessarily, say, Plano), I'd say that Fort Worth is Dallas' urban counterpart, not a city built solely from the expansion of it.

When looking at the word "[sub] - [urb]," as "below [not] urban," you'll note that the majority of Dallas proper and the majority of Fort Worth proper is, in fact, suburban. Both municipalities do, though, have an extremely strong, well defined urban core that could, by themselves, support a metropolitan area and support individual suburbs. Therefore, they are not suburbs, but rather, host entities.

An entity like Arlington that claims it is 'no one's suburb' is quite mistaken. Arlington cannot function on its own and could not support its own suburban ring.

Dallas can.

Fort Worth can.

Thusly, Fort Worth is not a suburb of Dallas.

Well I think Fort Worth's history predates Dallas' a little. Fort Worth probably would be the size of Dallas by now if Dallas had never been brought into exisitance. And Dallas would be experienceing the kind of growth that Fort Worth sees.

But, yeah Big effin' deal, right??

The shorthand name for this entire region, used by most people that don't actually live here, is "DALLAS".
Apologies to the fine city of FW, but that's just that way it is and it's been that way for a very, very long time.

Put another way, FW is D's little brother.
(While Arlington is the retarded child no one wants to talk about.)
Of course, we're all family and we all love each other dearly.

So, yeah, let's just bash Houston instead.

The federal reserve bank for this region is the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank because Dallas was and continues to be the driving city in this region.

The TV series was called Dallas.

It's the Dallas MSA.

When Queer Eye decided to visit Texas they spent most of the time and most of the city scenes in Dallas....why is that?

The newest reality show is called Sheer Dallas.

It is the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Burn, Dallas Desperados, Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks. Does not matter where they actually play ball.

If the Texas Rangers called themselves the Dallas Rangers then everyone outside of this region would know where they played. Until I moved here I really didn't know for sure where they were from because I had no idea where Arlington was. And today I regard it as a very poorly planned and suburb.....of Dallas.

If you were marketing this region to anybody in the world what name would you attach to this region......Dallas. Go around the world and tell anybody you are from Dallas and they know where you are from. It just happened that way.

Well, as they say.... Fort Worth is where the West begins, whereas Dallas is where the East peters out.

Why don't y'all just go back to ignoring Fort Worth, whilst Dallas chokes on its suburban necklace.

As TG would say, Fort Worthians are all competitive with Dallas, but Dallasites don't even think about it.

From my vantage point in Kaufman County, the whole thing looks like a couple of schoolyard wannabes saying "My daddy can beat up your daddy!" while the rest of the kids on the playground go about their business, not even knowing that there's a question, and if they knew, not caring what the answer would be.

Yeah, but Prosper's outdated spaceport is going to be a huge money-loser when Kaufman's matter transporter (http://www.maxent.org/video/vegas_transporter.html) gets its Live Cargo certification. Take that!

why don't we just call it North Texas and move on.It's not 'Central North' Texas, it's 'North Central' Texas. Thusly, I've always been under the assumption that central was the east-west designation.. even though its technically not that accurate. More like 'North-Central Eastern Texas.'

Because it's our durned tax money paying for the goshdarned speedway and we want credit for the race being in our frickin town!

It's not the Greater Dallas Sports Authority. None of the water or sewer lines extend from the city of Greater Dallas to serve the speedway, and I have never seen a City of Greater Dallas police car out there patrolling the highways and busting drunk rednecks.

There's benefits to having the City of Fort Worth name boosted by the race and we paid for it those benefits, not Greater Dallas.

Now to get right down to the truth of things, I personally don't care that much about it. But I do understand why some in Fort Worth aren't too happy about a tee-shirt that puts the race in Greater Dallas.

Hey, you're on topic! Get out of here! :)

Some day, when Meacham Field opens up for passenger traffic (again), maybe we'll invite our family to fly in to Fort Worth to visit the Nasher Center. It's right there in town.

Actually there is a mobile intoxilyzer unit on loan from the Dallas County Sheriff's Department being used to curb drunk driving at the races.

Call up Trudy on the telephone, send a letter in the mail
Tell her I'm hung up in Fort Worth and they won't let me outta this jail
- Charlie Daniels
(There's also a "D'ville" reference in the lyrics (http://www.lyrics007.com/The%20Charlie%20Daniels%20Band%20Lyrics/Trudy%20Lyrics.html) that I hadn't noticed before. I think "A'ton" would be a good substitute)

The Dixie Chicks (http://www.dixie-chicks.com/) had a song with a certain town's name referenced, but it was before they hit big, so nobody but a long-time fan would catch it if I sang, "Don't let Fort Worth see you crying, she reminds herself as she rolls out of town..."

And of course, there's the great one from Pantera... Fort Worth! Stars! (or should that be Fort! Worth! Stars!)

Meanwhile, you're in someone else's arms in Fort Worth. Does Dallas ever cross your mind?

I've been to Talledega twice just for the party.

Each time, I was made nervous by the singularity of the deep south patriotism (treated to a few sitings almost as impressive as in the photo frankchitown posted - whew), did not have a favorite driver or team to hope wins, arrived an hour or two late, but had a blast. Of course, I was with a group of friends/in-law relatives/associates who provided a comforting buffer so I could blend into the crowd and relax a little. For us, it was all about drinking beer, watching cars go really fast and a designated driver with a superior knowledge of NE Alabama backroads.

It's like a big drunken pep rally. Not as much fan violence as I expected. I thouhgt I would catch a few parking lot brawls, but the best I got was somebody's old lady bitching him out for puking.

I live in in Briar, but the post office seems to think I'm in Azle. Mailing addresses don't always line up with city limit lines. But then again, I think our esteemed host was just posting in a different thread on how you can get away with using whatever locality name you want as long as the zip and stuff is correct. Think I'll get new business cards made with Briar address. :-)

Poor Ft. Worth.

I just moved out of Dallas to Southlake, which is in Tarrant County, has an 817 area code, and I suppose is "officially" a suburb of FW.

With my job I travel constantly. I first started telling people I moved outside of FW.
<insert blank stare>

I now tell people I live in a suburb outside of Dallas.
<insert approving look>

It's not that I have a feeling one way or the other, but the other Texas geography-challenged people make me do it.

Maybe Fort Worth needs to start a support group with Oakland, Long Beach, Newark, and Ft. Lauderdale.
