Well yesterday was a nice day so I took advantage of it and went out to take pics.

There's a replica of the Wall for those who died in the Vietnam War (half the size). The real one is in D.C. of course.

That town looks dry..but intresting. I would like to see that Vietnam Memorial replica. I wonder why they built it exactly like the one in Washington DC..

The Memorial isn't a permanent structure, it's a travelling replica. And yes Lubbock is really dry.

I go to Lubbock every spring and every fall.. and springtime does have some pretty cool storms. Last one I remember, the wind was picking up the dust/rocks and slamming it into the back of me and my friends.. painful! then it began to hail, and apparently there was a tornado about 2 miles off. Then it cleared, there was a gorgeous sunset, and the temps dropped to like 40° and we had a bonfire. The weather is pretty unpredictable.

Thank you for the great tour! That 'colored entrance' sign is an interesting peice of history.. you should check for local agencies/chapters of organizations that would be interesting in seeing/preserving this for a museum or something..

Nice pics #1. Do you ever get out to the house where the guy is building it all out of iron and welding every seam himself? It stands on stilts overlooking the hillside on the north side of town etc... I forget what it's called, or his name. I think maybe he's an art or architecture professor at Tech. Been building it for 20 years or somesuch. I think he gives tours as well.

Is this what you're referring to? http://www2.tltc.ttu.edu/Schneider/robert.htm, www.robertbruno.com (http://www.robertbruno.com)

His name is Robert Bruno, and the house is located just outside of town in Ransom Canyon. Very breathtaking area there, with houses stacked precariously on the top of the canyon. This one in particular was featured years ago on the HGTV show "Extreme Homes." I finally went to check it out myself back when I was at Tech. That was quite an experience. Pictures don't do it justice. You can literally drive right under the overhang of the house.

I definitely recommend a drive to Ransom Canyon for anyone who is in the area.

My design and environmental studies professor from last semester (Fulkreigher or something like that) did mention that house during a lecture but I had forgotten about it. I will try to see if I can go to it soon so be on the look out for pics of it lol. :D

I love Ransom Canyon. It's a great little niche that you wouldn't really expect in Lubbock. The area during Christmas is really great, especially if it snows. (Or course, I'd hate to be down there if it ices...how do those people get to work during ice storms?)

Nice pics!

My design and environmental studies professor from last semester (Fulkreigher or something like that)

I knew Urs Peter Flueckiger (http://www.arch.ttu.edu/Architecture/Faculty/Flueckiger_U/default.htm) while I was there. He rocks. He designs and builds cool furniture.

oh really? ya I liked his class a lot but I had a hard time understanding him at first. too bad I ended up dropping architecture, though. JSoto you must be one smart man if you got through it all! Good job lol. I'll see if I can get pics of his house for you too.

For those of yall visiting Lubbock, no trip to that town is complete without eating some Black Man's BBQ. I'm not sure of the specific address, but if you're in the depot district late at night on a friday or saturday, (maybe thursday too, I dunno) ask anyone where it is, and you'll have the best BBQ on the planet. I know it's near the Library (the bar, not the academic building).
