Last Sunday the state of Texas got a huge black eye from the popular David E. Kelly lawyer show Boston Legal. Two lawyers from the firm head down to Texas to try and save a nearly retarded man from being executed. Once you get past the dated obsession with cowboy hats and mechanical bull riding, the show revolves around the obvious problems with the prosecution, including DNA evidence that someone else was at the murder scene, the likelihood that the "confession" was extorted, and that his defense attorney was incompetent and was, in fact, on cocaine during the trial.

Despite all the reasonable doubt all of this creates, the high court ignored it all and allowed him to be executed anyway.

Message to America: Texas is a state of blood thirsty idiots who have no interest in real justice.

It was also interesting that while they were supposed to be in Houston, and in fact most of the skyline shots were from the Bayou City, except for one great nighttime panorama slowly rising from behind the Bank One Building and clearly showing the green argon outline of the BOA Tower.

Seen one big Texas city, seen 'em all, I guess.

Cowboy hats and mechanical bull riding fit tourists' mental image of Texas.

As for the topic of the death penalty, I'll abstain from the discussion so as to not raise my blood pressure to an unhealthy level.

I remember seeing some numbers a while ago that showed it costs more to execute a prisoner than it does to keep him alive in the prison system for the rest of his life.

Anyway, I saw the show and mentioned the very brief shot of Dallas.
