Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday the state is launching a one-stop shop online for businesses wanting to expand or move to Texas and consumers needing government services. The site, which was announced during Technology Week at the Texas Legislature, will allow businesses to apply for all the licenses and permits needed to open in Texas.
"Likewise, consumers will be able to go to a single source for information on a variety of licenses and programs as well as job openings," Perry said in a written statement. "Living in Texas" serves consumers by bringing online services such as driver's license renewals, electric utility rates information and tourist information to one access point. The "Texas Business Portal" simplifies the state's licensing requirements for business by bringing them to a central location, as well.
The portals were developed by the Texas Department of Information Resources and are linked directly to Texas Online (www.texasonline.com), the state's official Web site. "We saw the opportunity to support Gov. Perry's commitment to simplifying access to government and we were able to leverage our Texas online investments to build these portals," said Larry Olson, chief technology officer and Department of Information Resources executive director.
The Texas Business Portal includes:
-Business opportunities with government
-Business research and statistics
-Economic development and expansion
-Employer resources
Living in Texas features include:
-Consumer protection information
-Vehicle registration and renewal
-Job resources through WorkinTexas.com
-Tax information
Web sites: www.business.texasonline.com and www.living.texasonline.com
