It was all true.. They were worried about other people stating their own forums..
(the starting their own forum thing is a joke)

I don't think saying they closed it because "It was all true" will hold up in a court of law. Supporting your own city, whether Dallas or Durant, Ok., is always going to cause a stir in a community of people who don't live in the same city. Kind of reminds me of the card game "Spite and Malice".

Hey folks... thought I'd throw down my two pennies..
I'm all for "representing" the board, but I'm not sure that was the best way of going about it.. The problems you listed are the very same reason I "Swivle" stopped posting in the SE Forum.. along with many other Sr. members. The staff over there knows this, and are working to combat it.. That is why your thread got locked. Its that very type of material that has turned the majority of SSC SE fORUM into a waste of bandwidth.. The mod that locked your thread could care less about others starting their own boards.
I'm not sure what your motive was: to plug this board, or to just rant... either way, look at it from the other side of the fence for a sec.. Say a couple forumers from a smaller board come here and post the same thing.. then plug their board. From a staff and forumer standpoint mind you.. Its a good thing this board has the good rep that it does, otherwise that could've been twice as messy.
IMO, its a good thing the thread was locked before it had the chance to snowball into a heated mud fight.
I can't speak for this board , or any of you, but thats not type of publicity I would want for my board, nor the image I would want to portray.
I'm not bashing anyone for what was said, but make sure you know whats really going on with the situation as a whole before you decide to do such a thing.
The locked thread is just the sort of material that fuels all the BS on that board. Everyone is well aware off all the issues that were stated..
Most of which are the same reasons I no longer post there. You wanna vent about SSC, cool, just think about it before hand.
Judging by your post, you could care less about SSC or what happens there, thats fine.
I just wouldn't suggest bringing DFW Urban into it at the risk of tarnishing our good, respected name.

I just wanted eneryone to know why there is a MINUTE amount of people on their forum for such a big metro... If you look at the board you would thing that everything in the SW is hapening in Houston. That is BC there are lots of folks their from Houston. I just wanted to let the people know that we are here, and not there for a reason. To also let them know to come visit the site sometimes to get to know what happens in Texas outside of Houston. Didnt want to start an argument, just wanted to let the people know that we are Urban too, or at least striving to be.

I don't know about all that, but someone has to say something. Sometimes I think, its just words, but then one realizes those sites like that are read by thousands. PRobably hundreds of thousands. Maybe even millions. I don't really know the actual web traffic, but that site is very international, and many people there are looking for vacation info or even places to relocated to. To let flat out lies go unchecked is actually a big problem. I mean some guy was saying why doesn't Dallas build residential highrises and light rail like Houston, then it would be more attractive to people like me. I guess I've realized that silence is sometimes as bad as being lied about.

They've known why for awhile now... things are improving

O-kay.. Well, Good for Houston.. It has a strong following..
Dallas would probably have the same if it weren't for DFW Urban...
which I luckily found when SSC SEF went belly up.
I just wanted to let the people know that we are here, and not there for a reason.
You say that you didn't want to start an argument?
Heh ^ Well thats a surefire way to start one...
Esp with a group of kids that are known for constantly talking trash.
Didnt want to start an argument, just wanted to let the people know that we are Urban too, or at least striving to be.
C'mon man.. what do you think your post looks like to the majority of the ppl you're trying to "inform"?
Just outta the blue 2 ppl sign up and make only one post a piece pointing out all SSC's shortcomings, and then go on to imply how their board is far superior in more ways than one... Thats quite disrespectful in itself, and no better than the behavior of the very ppl that kept you away to begin with.
#2.. There is no subforum here deticated to Dallas
What is the need with no "peeps" to hold it down..
Dallas shares this forum w/many other important cities.. they put up w/it. what makes us so special..
MAYBE a TX sub-forum once some ppl grow up.
#3.. Too many people here have NOTHING constructive to say
what they heard: too many of you are bland, or dim..
Its a numbers game..
SSC Members: 14,329
* to
DFW Members: 571
your chance for non-constructive topics and posts skyrockets @ SSC....
And of course those who study Dallas history, or represent our architectural community etc. gather here on DFW..
Why would they go anywhere else...
SSC is global, and just not designed to house each and every group, from city to city and so on
The way I see it... If the state of SSC bothered you so much,.. to the point of creating an account just to post your beef, what did you ever do to improve the situation? Did you consult with any mods on how to help clean things up? Did you ever contribute quality threads that set the example?.. Until then you have no right to just waltz in and act like you speak on the behalf of all the forumers in Dallas. You came across like... all of Dallas will be at DFW Urban if you need us.. while some of us are still fighting to restore Dallas @ SSC. The idea here is to earn the respect that Dallas deserves on SSC... Little rants like "5 reasons" does nothing but push D back in the wrong direction w/the ppl... and you don't even post @ SSC!.. come to think of it.. what do you care about how SSC runs anyway?
Please believe: I'm not trying to bitch at you here man, just trying to help you see the big picture from both points of view..
:D And sorry, but I just don't buy that your thread was completely innocent... you may have meant well, but there were some poor choices in words...
If we expect ppl to accept, love, and respect Dallas like we do, a positive vibe, and a little class are in order. ;)

Hey you know what? I went to that skyscraper forum and looked around and guess what happened? I was BORED TO TEARS.
That's right, BORED. Sure there's some cool pictures and they are fun to look at, but I can find pictures of Bangkok anywhere online.
I'm sorry guys, I just want to help you to get over this envy, okay? Geez, it's like penis envy or something- take a pill guys! It's not that big of a deal.
So, repeat after me: "Skyscrapercity Forum is not better than us. We all pay taxes in Dallas, therefore our opinions about Dallas matter more to us than to anyone else. Skyscrapercity Forum is not better than Dallasmetropolis. We have a fine city. A million people can't all be wrong. Skyscrapercity Forum is not our master."
Can we all try that?

What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.
But they got, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes,
Diff'rent Strokes. It takes,
Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got,
not alot,
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....
Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.

Just for compariston how many people live in Dubai. How many people live in D-FW. Dubai has its own sub-forum. Not many people took my post as bad as you. Sorry if you didnt think it was "classy". But, I thought it was well intended and justified, since I have been vivsiting their forum for so long, until recent events on the board in posts never shut down enraged me. I always thought that nothing "urban" happened in Dallas until I accidetaly stumbled on this sight. I also wanted to let them know why I (and Im shure others never join and post). The board is just not positive, and very selective torward certain metros (some hevily attended and some not).
SO NO, I wasnt trying to start an argument. Just wanted to get some stuff off my chest, and let others that were like me know we are here(not there), and why.
They even BANNED me.. Oh well.. I looked at the board for years w/o posting. I think I can do just fine w/o the privilage..

I am just curious. If so many forumers out there hate Dallas so much. Why do they waste time....any time telling us about it? What is that about? It doesn't make any sense unless they really hate what they see here. There is nothing worse to people of that opinion than a sucessful Dallas.
Just tell them to read Site Selection magazine. It will make their head spin.

No, not city photos at SSP, they love Dallas. We're talkin' SSC's southeastern forum... where pics hardly get posted anymore..
I posted that James Langfor set the other day.. not one person responded, and only 48 people took the time to view it...

and vice versa.. I visit SSP now for quality tours without the drama..
those who know bashing at this level doesn't fly @ SSP these days have set up shop @ SSC...
and the international crowd choosing SSC didn't help matters either.. esp w/most current opinions of America being so negative..
esp of the south... where stereotypes run ramped.. i.e. oil & cowboys named Bush...
JSteffen
why does a picture thread have to be reduced to personal bashing?
The tension in the southeast forum is pretty heavy. Geez, lay off & enjoy the pics
exactly...
I know theres always gonna be people who get off on bashing..
If only the those who retaliate would ignore it, a big part of this would work its course...
Instead they feed the beast where it snowballs from a simple tour, into a 4 page argument/debate..

I was agreeing with what you just said.
SSP used to be the SSC of the forum world. A lot of the notorious bashers simply moved on to SSC rather that's through being banned or voluntarily. Most noticeably the Toronto, London and Hong Kong crowds. Before you go there, remember those three are the center of the known universe. No where else can match their architecture, diversity or public transit systems. If you think otherwise you are an ignorant American. I love it, LOL.
