Hi all. I have lived in DFW most of my life, and over that time I have grown to love the urban center of Dallas. I have seen the progress that has been made both in uptown and downtown and I am exciting about all the projects that are on the way. My better half and I live in Plano right now, but we can not stand it. She works in uptown and I work all over so we are looking to move to uptown this summer. We have looked at quite a few places down there(just driving by) as well as several online hunts. Does anybody have any suggestions, warnings, etc.. about the different apartments in the area. We are looking at about 1000.00 a month or so for 1 bedrooms. Any comments are appreciated.

You can get a pretty nice 2 bedroom for that price here:

I wondering how much the new phase of Camden Farmers Market will cost. Its not Uptown, but its a pretty nice community. Close to the Farmers Maket and anything downtown or Uptown. 1 bedroom used to be in the $800s depending on which floorplan you picked.
and once you move to Dallas you can call yourself, $30,000 millionaire.

I really wouldn't consider Jefferson at North End, personally. I know 3 people who have had cars stolen from that community within the last several months. I know, that can happen anywhere... BUT 3 of my friends??? Either I've got really unlucky friends or things all over there are bad.

^ Yeah, I live there and have had no problems. I have heard about a few break ins though. They have since added security guards to "control" entry/exit of people at night. Not sure how successful it has been.

Camden Farmers Market used to have problems as well. The problems aren't unique to these complexes though.

Personally, I think alot of the problems stemmed from the attitude of management at the complexes. I think too little thinking was devoted to security at these 'upscale' apartment homes since the residents would all be semi-well-off and the likelihood of crime amongst these types of tenants is generally not a problem. Unfortuantely all the crime has come from elsewhere in the city and invaded their complexes and now as an afterthough there are SEVERAL 24 hr roving guards, guards at gates, etc..
I know this has happened at several complexes in the area and hopefully management of these properties will take the cue and start sucking it up and hiring a few more bodies. It's all about money to these places and only when the word gets around about break-ins etc and residents start moving for that reason will they do anything.

The best way to keep you car from getting broken into is to hide everything in sight or tae it away. All the apartments in Dallas are supposed to have "Take, Lock, Hide" signs in the lots/garages. You cannot put all of your hopes and faith into security guards. Break-ins happen anywhere/anytime.

They're building a new "guard house" at the main entry gates, and are implementing new gate entry procedures that are quite rigorous...kind of annoying...but necessary, I'm sure. I won't complain too much. I'm sure it's for the best.
And yes...I strongly agree with those "Take, Lock, Hide" signs. I see it every time I go in my gate, and I take it to heart. Don't give them any bate, first and foremost. Not that you're to blame if something does happen, but it pays to be conscientious.

My aunt lives in a gated neighborhood in Las Colinas with a guard at the gate 24 hours who you have to sign with before going in and she has had her cars stolen twice now in the last 5 years. And similar with some family friends in Willow Bend area of Plano.
