If anyones intrested, found this while surfing the web. Intresting find, Texas Zephyr ran from Houston to Denver via DFW on the Burlington Route during 40s-50s. The Houston to Dallas run was only 4 hours too but I guess automobiles won out in the end for rail service. Heres the schedule and train amenties. Don't you wish this was still running? Barely comaprable to the Amtrak service we get now.

Run that baby from OKC to Galveston via DFW-Austin-San Antonio-Houston, and you have the ultimate Spring Break party train. I'd much rather take a train to the beach than drive -- let someone else worry about the sand the kids track back.

Very cool... there was a heck of alot of romance to travel back then, and especially earlier. Named trains like the Texas Zephyr, lots of competition for bragging rights on speed, luxury, etc.
