There are several small cranes on the site now. It appears they are preparing the foundation and should begin the prking structure soon.

I walked down Cole yesterday and saw a LITTLE peek at the site. Anyone got any pics of the latest for this or can anyone get some.

I didnt notice a completion date goal mentioned anywhere in this thread, and the gables website still doesnt have the property on the map.

Good points tam. I have not seen anything either but I drive by the site almost every day and they have poured cement...installed plumbing...and are working on it daily.

So people would avoid this because of the color?

Only those who seem to hate the High Five because of color. You know who you are.

Has anyone seen any renderings for the new Gables Uptown Place apartment complex on Turtle Creek? I wonder if this going to be a mid-rise or maybe taller?

^ Not sure if anyone has noticed these either but they have made sigificant progress on this project. It looks like they are completing the third floor already.

If anyone can get pics that would be nice.

I drive by that every day on my way home from work. It seemed to take a while getting started, but they've really been coming along. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.

Here are a couple of pics I took today of the new Gables Uptown. Looks like this thing is getting off the ground.

Gables changed the rendering posted on the fence of this site...they left the multi-colored, south florida design, and went with a light monochromatic coloring scheme.

^ I thought I saw that too but was not sure.

That's too bad.

New rendering:

I like the new rendering, though. It also looks like there will be a new street connecting Cole with Carlisle.

Wow, has a Spanish Mission look like the Breakers or what's that apartment building in Old Pasadena, CA??

So, this will probably be ready before the end of the year?? I wonder when phase two will begin construction and if 300 units are still planned.

Phase 2? Where is Phase 2?

Phase 2? Where is Phase 2?

Next door, on Cedar Springs. Rumor says it will be taller too.

So, now that the rendering looks different, how will the phasing go? Before the complex was like a big square block, so half was easy to imagine. Now what? Is the back being built first? I don't understand exactly what the rendering represents, both phases? what street run across the front of the rendering? Help!

barrycb
03 March 2005, 01:29 PM
Ran,

The rendering looks like it faces northwest (towards Cityplace) and shows the current building. The street in front of the rendering will be new, parallel to Vine between Cole and Carlisle.

So basically, until something is built there is a field sitting between the building and Cedar Springs? Will phase 2 go in this field and cover up that grand front entrance? Its the Reinzi all over again.

Yes to everything. However, the building covering the entrance should be much better than the 1-2 story job blocking the Reinzi.

I noticed new fencing around the property on west side of Carlisle St. across from the Gables development. (East of Katy Trail across from the future Hyatt residential) Anyone have any info on new development for that lot?

barrycb

I noticed the same thing yesterday. The for sale sign is still on the lot, but that is definitely a construction fence.

Wasn't that site once the future home of Hotel Sofitel? I also noticed they fenced off that piece of land in front of the Gables...or has that been that way?

gc

^ Not sure about the answer to your question, but I do know that they changed the name from Gables Uptown Place to Gables Villa Rosa.

Also, the lot across the street (that fronts the Katy Trail) is now fenced off completely. Anyone have a clue?

Any pic updates? I saw the mock-up and some finish on the south side. I still cannot make out the layout of this thing. Its looks rectangular again like the original rendering with the color of the new rendering. I take it, the newest rendering is a second building with a grand entrance facing Cedar Springs.

This is from today.....I unfortunately didn't get a shot of the southside of the project, but I hope that they do some kind of covering for the parking garage or that the 2nd phase (there's supposed to be one isn't there?) will cover it up.

Thanks for the pic. I would have chosen another design, but it looks pretty dang good IMO.

I was wondering about the parking garage thing too. When you're going north on Cedar Springs you can see the parking garage in clear view. Right in the middle of the building. I was hoping phase 2 would cover it up as well, but when are they going to start it?

There is already a sign fronting Cedar Springs advertising the retail portion of phase 2. I believe it says fall 2006 as completion, so they will likely begin soon.

22 July 2005, 05:42 PM
Of course they plan to hide that horrible garage with the second building facing Cedar Springs. But if something happens and that phase gets killed we could be staring at the front of Hondas for a long time.

rantanamo
22 July 2005, 06:52 PM
According to you guys, it will be covered up and the side facing Cedar Springs is this one(retail on the flanks):

http://forum.dallasmetropolis.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=5467

I imagine they had to build in this way to get the garage in the middle. Creme filling!

Is it just me, or does it seem like they're taking forever to construct this thing. I think the "W" went up faster than this project.

rantanamo
22 July 2005, 07:37 PM
Seems pretty quick. For whatever reason we've not had many updates. The project is pretty massive in person. Much bigger than I expected.

crescentboi
22 July 2005, 07:59 PM
It is very large in scale. Hopefully they'll get the 2nd phase started rather quickly, and if the rendering is of the side facing Cedar Springs, it's going to be a great addition to the street. I like the little turret like designs on the lower level and the large stair cases and such. Great urban feel to it imo.
