Breaking News
The Mavs just traded Jamison to the Wizards for the #5 pick tomorrow, Stackhouse and Laettner(bring back Cherokee Parks!! jk). Cuban has come out and said that Dirk is now off limits. Just yesterday he said Dirk was close to untouchable. Looks like the trade for Shaq might actually keep Dirk in Dallas.
Thoughts? Opinions?
If we can trade that stackhouse, #5 pick, nash, and Laettner........GIMME SHAQ-DADDY!

I kinda hope we can keep Nash. I'd just like to see him shooting 3 with Shaq drawing attention!!
If the above Trade happens you're talking about $17 or $18 million between Stackhouse Laettner and the pick. That would mean either:
a.)two more players to the Lakers(probably Nash and Howard)
b.)The Lakers paying Nash a max contract. That would surprise considering Payton is staying.
c.)You send Antoine Walker and his $13 million OR Finley and his max contract, along with a throwin' to sweeten the deal and keep it within 15% of Shaq's upcoming $29 million. I would bet they'd want Howard with Walker since Walker only has 1 year left.
That would leave us with:
C - Shaq/Bradley
PF - Dirk/Fortson/Najera
SF - Finley/Dirk
SG - Finley/Daniels(if he is resigned)
PG - Nash/Daniels
I'm hoping this deal can eliminate the need to move Howard as well or any of the big 3. Looks like it may actually be possible. The Lakers told Cuban something, because his statements changed a lot in just 24 hours. All I can say is come Shaq Diesel. Come back to Texas. Dunk in the face of opponents. Block their shots. Bring us 2 or 3 titles so we can stop being made fun of by Spurs and Rockets fans. Oh come Shaq. Come to Dallas!

I'm holding out for a visit from the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and the Tooth Fairy tonight. We can all dare to dream.
Seriously, I don't know how warm and fuzzy I can get about Shaq coming to Dallas if those two wastes of space are still on the roster.

Walker is pretty much gone in any deal. Too attractive to the Lakers because he, Stackhouse and Laettner all represent free cap space after next season as opposed to Shaq requiring two more years.
I wonder if the Mavs pick for the Lakers tomorrow or do we see a deal already. Most were predicting a trade would be down the line, but the Jamison trade really could accelerate any talks.
You also have the possibilty of the Mavs trading Stack, Laettner, the pick and other player for a #1 and then packaging that with someone like Walker to the Lakers.
Even if the Mavs don't do anything at this point, they are in incredible cap shape after the upcoming season. The Mavs front office is putting them in incredible position to do almost anything they want. I'd trade it all for Shaq and the Big 3. Their shooting and his low post play = serious championship contender. Possibly the #1 contender.

I'm not sure where I stand on Shaq. I am not sure I am interested in giving up the fun-n-gun offense, led by the Great Steve Nash and Dirk, for a slowed down version game.
If you give up Nash and Walker and Howard, the line up is
C-Shaq
PF-Dirk
SF-Stackhouse
SG-Finley
PG-Daniels(currently if signed)
Its interesting. I love the 3P game. So Dirk could pop as many 3s as he so desires. I've never seen a guy get fouled so many times while shooting a 3 as Dirk. And of course, you would have Finley shooting 3s as well.
What troubles me is why isn't Dallas manuevering contracts in a way to lose alot of baggage next year so they can go after Yao next season? I find him more interesting to sign than Shaq and he would be around for a LONG time.

I wouldn't even think twice about giving up the fun-n-gun offense if it gave them a better shot at winning a title.

I'm not well-versed in the salary rules for the league, but didn't all the teams that maneuvered around a few years ago to go after Duncan only walk away empty handed because there was no way that they could top the deal that the Spurs could give him. Making a bunch of moves to try and go after a free agent next year that you may not have a serious chance to get is pretty risky.

All we need is Shaq and Nash. :D
My wife heard that Shaq already has a house on Frisco. Can anyone confirm?

I've heard that, too..from several different people.
I'd like to replace Nash. He always runs out of gas by the time playoffs roll around.

Yes he does. He also owns several retail strip centers and a krispy kreme or two.

Also, I think giving up Howard is way too costly. Nash and Howard? No way. I think Howard is going to be a big time player on the same level as .
Getting Shaq doesn't guarantee championships. There can only be one champ each year.
And I would rather see them get Yao than Shaq. Younger and still getting better. He might be better than Shaq in a year.

They just traded Najera to Golden State. good or bad?
I think it's bad. I'm starting to really not like Mark Cuban

With Najera you had to take the good with the bad. The good was his hustle, energy, etc. The bad was his ongoing injury (injuries?), his terrible outside shot and his occasional poor decision-making. I think it might turn out to be a good trade if Dampier plays like he did last season (that's a big if).
I don't think they really handled the offseason trades very well this summer, but I'm not exactly sure what direction I would have gone in if I were GM. At least they did SOMETHING because what they had wasn't working. Overall I'd say the ownership doesn't really have any clear plan on what it wants to achieve. At worst, I'd say they're just throwing whatever they can together and praying it will work.

Najera is a good hustle player man, but if you ever pay much attention you realize he gave Coach Don Nelson the most ulcers. I liked Najera's hustle and I did like it when he came in the game because you knew it gave a boost sometimes.
What do we get with Dampier that you don't get with Najera? Well, you at least get another legitimate center. Najera had to play against centers alot although that wasn't his natural position.
I can't wait for Maverick fun ball to start. October is just right around the corner.
