All are invited to the first annual Dallas No Pants! DART Ride. Be sure to spread the word to all your friends!! This is in conjunction with Improv Everywhere's No Pants! subway Ride. http://improveverywhere.com/2009/12/06/save-the-date-no-pants-2010/

We will meet up for this event at 2:00PM on Sunday January 10th. Please read the post carefully!!

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION:

1) Willing to take pants off on light rail.
2) Able to keep a straight face about it.

**THIS IS A PARTICIPATORY EVENT. DO NOT SHOW UP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO TAKE YOUR PANTS OFF.**

DETAILS
When: Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 PM Sharp! (Over by around 4:00)
Bring: A backpack and money for fare
Wear: Normal clothes (hat, jacket, etc)
Complete logistics below:

We are meeting up at the Union Station at 2:00PM. We do not know what the turn out will look like for this first year so we're keeping things somewhat flexible. If turn out is low, we will be riding the Red line North up to Parker Road Station and then back to Union Station. If enough people show up we will be taking over the North bound Blue out to the Downtown Garland station as well. If turn out is ridiculous, we will stagger groups on both lines. A new train comes by for one of the two lines every ten minutes. People will be divided into groups and assigned cars so we're not all bunched up on one or two of them.

When we're organized, we will all head down to the platform together. Do not talk to others once your on the platorm or on the train. No one knows each other. (Or at least we're pretending we don't!) We will wait for a DART train to arrive, and all board the cars.

Sit in the car as you normally would. Read a magazine or whatever you would normally do. If you want to sit in small groups with your friends, that's okay. Just pretend that you don't know any of the other pantless people on the train.

At some random point after you board the train, stand up and take your pants off and put them in your backpack. If you'd like to use a briefcase, purse, grocery bag, or whatever instead of a backpack that's fine too. You are responsible for your own pants and they should be with you at all times. If anyone asks you why you've removed your pants, make something up. You can say something like you were "getting uncomfortable", or you "got too hot" (or something along those lines.)

Exit the train at the end of the line (Parker Road for the Red Line, Downtown Garland for the Blue) and stand on the platform, pantless. You will wait on the platform for the return train to arrive. Yes it will be chilly, but there should be only 10-15 minutes of standing around.

When you enter, act as you normally would. You do not know any of the other pantless riders. If questioned, tell folks that you "forgot to wear pants" and yes you are "a little cold". Insist that it is a coincidence that others also forgot their pants. Be nice and friendly and normal. Feel free to make up any story you like. Be creative and have fun with it. Make something up like "I forgot them because I was in a hurry," or, "wait, was I supposed to wear pants?" or, "what are you talking about?" The key is to do this with a straight face, and be serious about it.

We will exit the train once we're back at Union Station and go about our separate ways.

You must wear underwear! While there is nothing in Texas penal code about being in public in your underwear, it is illegal to expose your noughty bits. You can wear fun underwear if you like, but nothing that screams out "I wore this because I'm doing a silly stunt." Wear two pairs of underwear if it makes you feel more comfortable. Don't wear a thong or anything else that might offend people. Our aim is to make people laugh, not piss them off.

After the ride is over, we will be meeting at a bar.

I've been a big fan of Improv Everywhere for quite some time now and I haven't missed a video over the years.

Anyhow, this endeavor could become very interesting to see play out on a DART train. . .

Baring dare on DART draws stares

The Blue Line train from Union Station in Dallas to downtown Garland left right on schedule before 3 p.m Sunday.

By the time it pulled into the West End station at 3:02, Max Kuhl and his three friends had pulled their pants off.

So had Ashley Ross and Zach Mayer, right down to their skivvies and to the wide-eyed looks of fellow passengers who had no idea they'd boarded a train bound for shock humor.

In all, about 70 people – mostly in their 20s but plenty older and younger than that, too – rode DART sans pants Sunday afternoon.

According to organizers Brian Alguire and Chris Linville, it was the first time Dallas has taken part what has become a national event.

...

A Dallas Area Rapid Transit police cruiser was parked and waiting in front of Union Station. On the platform, an officer warned people that taking their pants off was against the law.

"It's considered disorderly conduct. You can go to jail or you can be cited," he said.

Undaunted and eager to undress, the group separated onto different trains – the Red Line into Plano and the Blue Line into Garland.

So heading north and northeast, they rode.

But it wasn't a ride without its hiccups.

Seconds after Kuhl, Ross and Mayer had their pants down, a woman riding with her pants very much on said she was calling the police.

Mark Kaplan, who was the one issuing directions, perhaps because he is a little older, told everyone without pants to pack up and hop off at the Akard Station.

Standing on the platform lined up in everything from racy, lacey briefs to plain old boxer shorts, it was a cold 15-minute wait for the next Blue Line run.

Sorry I missed the "no pants" deal... I'm on crutches, or I'da been there.

Has a budget reduction eliminated the fare police? I now mostly commute on the buses, but in my still frequent rail trips I've not seen anyone checking tickets for a month or more.
They're working harder than ever. They have indeed increased in number. I see newbies being trained all the time.

^I was in attendance on the Red Line. It was pretty cool. Lot's of stares and a few questions from interested rail riders. The police didn't give us any problems. I think they were anticipating the group would be there doing this. So, there were no hassles, and that was good. I can see this event growing in popularity over time. I think a lot of people wanted to wait and see how the group would be perceived/received by not only DART riders, but the local public at large, before participating in something like this. After all, Dallas likes to think that it's progressive, but in many respects it's not.

I am not sure what is exactly progressive about standing outside in below freezing weather with no pants, but it is definitely worth a chuckle and/or gaze.

The event in and of itself is not progressive, per se. It's the idea that the city can embrace all kinds of people and all kinds of events, including Improv, where there is not necessarily a purpose or cause, that is progressive.

I know what you meant, but I was just giving you a hard time. With that said, the problem is not that Dallas is not progressive, it is that Dallas needs to get that stick out of its arse, and this event was definitely at step in that direction...one pant leg off at a time. But I guess "progressive" is a more polite term.

I was on the BLue Line train where we all ditched at Akard cause some lady was "calling the cops. We were the groupo with the DaMN writer. Whole hell of a lot of fun!

OMG!

If that's the Mark Kaplan who is at The Naked Kens (http://nakedlens.org) then I know him, and I know that's just the kind of thing he'd be involved in too.

DART CEO Gary Thomas makes light of pantsless rail ride
12:09 PM Mon, Jan 11, 2010

Right off the bat at DART's meeting before the Dallas council's transportation committee this afternoon, DART CEO Gary Thomas was asked abut people taking their pants off on DART.

Thomas took it all in stride.

"I worked really hard to organize this event," he deadpanned.

"As far as I can tell, this trend started a few years back in New York city. I couldn't even begin to explain why people do it. DART escaped this the last few years. Through the wonder of Facebook it's all over the country.
All we can do is look forward to next year. We will have a lot more light rail for them to ride," he said.

Good to see the DART CEO Gary Thomas taking it in stride, and not allowing himself to be baited into a negative criticism about the event. He even jokes that there will be more rail for this group to ride next year. Again, Hats off to Gary Thomas for his sense of humor.

So a lady was gonna call the cops? It's funny and amazing to me how some people want to live in such a tattle-tell nanny state (my job for instance but that's another story). Lighten up people, it's a harmless prank. These are the type of people who you just gotta ask "Does everything offend you or could you just not find something better to be upset about?"

What does amaze me is that if something offends someone, that doesn't mean its illegal, but some folks feel justified in essentially wasting a public resource (police). While I find this prank to be rather silly and childish (look at me - I'm different, just like the others doing this same thing), you see no more of a person in their underwear than you do going to a beach. I also believe this is the sort of thing that the "better than thou" folks that wouldn't ride public transit under any circumstance use as the excuse that they don't ride public transit so they can feel all righteous and justified. Anytime you step into a public place, you have to deal with the public. For better or worse. :)

Granted it is all fun and games but it just takes one person to ruin it for everyone. Just takes one person making a sexual remark, or act, etc...

Ride the train around the time DISD gets out and you'll see plenty of sexual remarks and acts taking place.
