The Radio Shack Corporation announced on Friday that they will be closing the World's First and only Private Subway System when construction starts on their new world headquarters on the Trinity River bluff. Company officials stated that when the new buildings are complete, the subway will no longer be needed. Groundbreaking will be held in December on the new complex, but no word was given on how long the subway will operate once construction starts. Although the system was short and old, this will be a great loss for Fort Worth. It still looks as if our first public light rail system is at least seven to eight years away.

I greatly look forward to the Fort Worth Transportation Authority and the City developing and building LRT. This is definitely the brighter side of news, considering the Tandy (er, Radio Shack) Subway will be sorely missed - more for historical reasons I suppose. Thanks for the news John!
