Troy, I am going to be able to make the Tuesday Meeting to review and discuss these LRT alternatives. I'm looking forward to the meeting and reporting back to everyone on the matter.
By the way, if anyone is interested in attending the Meetings are on Tuesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 PM. The Tuesday meeting is at the Intermodal Transportation Center at 9th and Jones in Downtown Fort Worth and the Thursday meeting is at the Southside Community Center - 950 E. Rosedale.

Anyone from Dallas interested in the future of our regional rail transit should try to fit into their schedule sometime - a trip on the TRE to Fort Worth to attend a meeting on Fort Worth's rail plans and presentations. This is good for all of us, as well.

I know this is short notice, but if anyone is interested, there will be a Transit Alternatives meeting at the Intermodal Transportation Center in Downtown Fort Worth on Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 6:30 PM. If you can't make that one, another will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2002 at 6:30 PM. The Thursday Meeting is at the Southside Community Center at 950 E. Rosedale in Fort Worth. This meeting does not have rail transit service. The one on Tuesday is on a TRE stop in Downtown.

Two public meetings were held on March 26 and 28 to display the alignments for Fort Worth's Light Rail Starter Line. It will be approximately 6 miles in length and will run from the Cultural District through Downtown and end at Texas Wesleyan University in the Polytechnic area of the city. This is basically an east/west route. Some key notes about this plan are that the routes through Downtown are not definite, the Stock Yards are not included in the starter system, and the Medical District (2nd highest concentration of employment) is only grazed by the line. Completion date of the starter line is 2008 and the price tag is $170 Million.
In order to better serve the Medical District, an extension of the commuter rail line (Trinity Railway Express) to Dallas is planned to extend southward to Berry and Cleburne Rd. with a stop on the west side of the Medical District. This connection will put a rail stop within one mile of Texas Christian University and will be within walking distance of my home.
Future extentions of the light rail will bring it into the Medical District and have direct stops at TCU and the Stock Yards. Stations will also be within walking distance of my home.

I'd also like to know how this is going. Fort Worth getting good light rail will also probably speed up how soon the TRE can improve, i.e. more double-tracked segments and run completely electric like the great commuter lines in Japan and most of the rest of the world. Those two additional commuter lines that are a part of Mobility 2025, does anyone know of when plans for them are supposed to begin?
