From Staff Reports
A man died and two people were hospitalized Thursday after a car collided with a DART train at the intersection of Restland Road and Texas Instruments Boulevard.
The crash occurred around 1:40 p.m., after the man attempted to cross the track ahead of the southbound train.
The man died from his injuries, DART spokesman Morgan Lyons said. There were 40 passengers on board the three-car train. Two were taken to the Medical City Hospital for minor injuries, Lyons said.
The victim's names were not released pending notification of family members.
Witnesses told officials the man drove under the crossing when he collided with the train. The Red Line train had just left the Spring Valley station and was headed toward LBJ/Central station.

I still don't understand people trying to beat a light rail train. Some tried to break a barrier just last Friday when I was riding. Thankfully the driver stopped the train. The train takes like 10 seconds out of your day from barrier down, train passing, barrier up. Why not just let them pass!?!?!?!

Those that get hit going through these barriers, as horrible as it is to say it, deserve it. They're the same people that will burst through a light just as its turning red and kill some elderly lady who doesn't expect them to burst into her after HER light has turned green.
People are so stupid! I had hoped people in Dallas had gotten used to this by now and learned to have some sense. I guess my hopes were too high.

I'd have to agree. you never hear about these Dart accidents being casued by some malfunction of the crossing arms or the system as a whole. it you're going to be stupid enought to drive around, break thru or get passed somehow while the arm is down you are asking for it. it's only a few quick seconds because there are not cargo trains with car after car to wait on.
Well I wouldn't go as far as saying that they deserve it....someone did die or get serioulsy injured. However, I do wonder what these people were thinking were thinking when they they try to cross the tracks. How many times do we have to read this stuff before it sets in..."someone tried to cross the tracks before...?"
I am sorry this happens so often.

These are the same asshats who swerve through traffic at high speeds only to get one car ahead of you, and cut through parking lots to avoid traffic lights. This is where trying to "save" time will get you: a one way ticket to death.

That's the second time someone has died at that crossing. I remember hearing about a family darting across that crossing last year, the baby daughter died. The mother tried to beat the train and failed. The father wigged out after the accident and wondered off into the wooded area behind Restland Memorial.

I remember that. I saw it for myself that night, when on my way to Mockingbird Station. It was pretty bad.
I guess the sick irony is the fact that it is next to a cemetery.

These are the same guys who exit off the freeway through the grass as soon as the freeway traffic backs up a little.

>< don't you just love bad PR? But I really doubt that anyone will think less of DART because of some idiot.. people don't think less of TXDOT when someone hops on the freeway after drinking 9 beers and darts across the median into 60mph oncoming traffic.. some people are just idiots.

THANK YOU!!!!! That is the same way I feel. I'm the operator that was involved in that accident a Restland and I just don't understand why people have to be so impatient.
