So I am driving home from work earlier this evening and it smacks me in the face! The KDFW Fox 4 building at the corner of Griffin and San Jacinto. Wow! how ugly could it get. I has apparently been stripped like it was going to re-furbished.......but nothing seems to be in place. Anyhoo, it is extremely ugly. Does anyone know anything about this building, its future, renovations, occupancy, etc?

thanks

I actually put in a call to FOX 4 today to ask about this....I was told apperantly they're updating the buildings exterior to match the area archtecture....I wonder if their going to do a "store window" studio ala "Today Show" or "GMA"

Interesting. It has looked like crapp forever. In fact, i have not seen anyone, doing any work, in a long long time. So perhaps they will get on the ball!

The KDFW building is actually part of the old times-herald complex...Id love to see them totally redo the building and open it up. They need to create a new Young st. storefront with a studio for the morning and evening news. Its right down at the DART station and they would have the "built in audience" esp. for the "Good Day" morning show.

Great idea! Again, I could not agree more!

That would be a great idea. Somebody send the idea to the station manager.

ya know...we need to start a new thread about creating a street-front studio.

I posted something in a much earlier post that is very similiar to this idea. I noticed that in the renderings for the Main Street Development- the ABC logo appears in one of the spaces. Almost signifying that ABC may build some sort of ground floor studio along Main Street. While it would be great for Fox to do something like this- should ABC actually do this along Main Street where the action is- it would serve as a better backdrop (urban feel).

But remember, when we about ABC in dallas...we're talking Belo...and we all know how cheap they are...I would like to see fox 4 get the jump on the streetfront studio (since their show is both 4hrs and has more flavor). Heres my question though: How will they handle security and crowds on the street??

Atomic,
I think that would be great for both stations to tackle this idea. I also think that if either station should do something like that, then they would be forced to think about security and crowd control. Having said that, I doubt they would have to deal with the types of crowds like those in New York, etc. BUT if they leverage streetfront studios the right way....then it would certainly attract more people to the core of the city, maybe improve local tv ratings, perhaps spark more DT events.......hell i don't know.

i am out!

I was in Downtown last Saturday and noticed the removal of part of the facade on the building. Lance is correct in that it was a part of the Dallas Times-Herald building complex. The Times-Herald was once across the stree to the south where the large parking lot is located today.

FYI, the metal facade of the Fox 4 Building has been replaced. I am not so sure about the exterior matching the area architecture, but it does not look as bad as it did....

Does anyone have any before and after pics per say of the building? I can't really picture it.
