Anyone ever actually see Carter + Burgess' master plan and general full range of services for the place?

South of DFW Airport, off of 360?

Same place indeed. (But, alas - it isn't lookin' like that (http://www.campusatcentreport.com/main.html) these days.)

Pretty cool image, though.

Well, I hate to admit it, but generally, building tall structures around airports has been long frowned upon. It wouldn't happen, and that campus project? It screams late 90s, and I'm quite surprised that it isn't dead.

I also love how they call it "smart location," then have all that parking, then they say "smart planning", but it looks like a college campus designed by Le Corbusier.

I work near there.

The traffic is really bad on 183 and 360. Those highways are at or near capacity.

There are only a few buildings in this development right now.

How do they think they can add all those buildings without expanded transportation capacity?

This is where the TRE will become extremely important. There is a stop just south of centreport.

What is the distance to the TRE stop? Are there plans to implement a street car like system to provide for easy transportation from the station to and then through centreport office park development? Any chance of this including some ground floor retail, or housing much of anything but purely office?

The TRE stop is on the far south end of the area, about a mile and a half from 183, or the north end of CentrePort.

The CentrePort station is south of that development buried deep in a suburban style apartment community. It would be a pretty good hike from the station to the core of the planned development. On top of that it wouldn't be a very nice walk/bike with the proposed layout. Its just another horrid office park.

Well, Amon Carter Blvd, the big street on the right is there. That's AMR's headquarters. Don't know about the rest. Last time I was there, the rest was still a big field.

RobertB

... it was/is to be a gigantic business park at the intersection of SH360 and US183.
That intersection wouldn't exist unless you extended SH 360 to Austin.

I am not real sure why this area has not gotten hotter for the companies that want access to DFW. It is as close as you can get.

This is an old plan... Only about 10% of the buildings exist- it's been thay way for as long as I can remember. The newest addition was a Marriott that was built about 4 years ago- but most of the area is open field. I too am surprised this has not taken off- with such easy access to DFW.

Hotels, retail to move in near TRE

A mixed-use addition with two hotels and neighborhood shops is planned for the CentrePort development south of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.

A 142-room Holiday Inn and a 172-room Candlewood Suites have signed on for the development at the northwest corner of Texas 360 and Trinity Boulevard, said Bill Guthrey, senior vice president of marketing for Koll Development Co.

About 40,000 square feet of retail space is planned for the first phase, Guthrey said. Most of the retail will be businesses that would serve nearby hotel guests and office workers, such as dry cleaners, sandwich shops and office-supply stores, he said. . .

From the story:

The hotels can also market nighttime destinations along the train route, such as Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth and American Airlines Center in Dallas.

“They don’t have to rent a car,” he said. “They can go to a Stars game or down to Sundance Square.”
Suuuuure they can. Take that Saturday night train, go to Fort Worth, have a ball. Just don't expect to get back to your hotel room until Monday, because like Cinderella's carriage, the train turns into a pumpkin at midnight. No, my bad, this Cinderella has an early bedtime: she has to be in bed by 10:00 pm (http://www.trinityrailwayexpress.org/newsateb.html).

This is good to hear. CentrePort has a ton of potential. I just hope that future developments are well planned and ride the New Urbanism bandwagon.

This is the kind of development that could help to increase traffic on the TRE, making it run slightly more often / longer hours.

We can hope. One thing that I have noticed is there is little development on the DART side of the fare boundary at TRE stations. I haven't rode much past S. Irving, but from West Irving to Union, there isn't much, aside from Victory.

the medical center?
There's a big empty space between the station and Denny's. No TOD at all, despite the large number of folks boarding and deboarding during the hospital's shift changes. I think this may be due to the nature of commuter rail, with its sparse schedule and widely separated stations.

Yeah the huge development spurred by the nearby commuter rail station known as "the medical center"

KDC Announces Plans For CentrePort Station
http://texas.construction.com/news/building/archive/0607.asp

Dallas-based Koll Development Co. recently announced plans for CentrePort Station, a new mixed-use development located in KDC's Campus at CentrePort master-planned business community in Dallas.

The new mixed-use development will feature two new hotels, as well as national retailers and restaurants. The Campus at CentrePort is served by the Trinity Railway Express commuter rail, connecting CentrePort residents and visitors with downtown Fort Worth, downtown Dallas and DFW International Airport.

CentrePort Station will be located on Trinity Boulevard and SH 360, two miles south of D/FW Airport. It will be designed in the New Urbanism style, incorporating hotel, retail and commercial in a pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented setting, expanding on CentrePort's "live-work-play" environment.

"CentrePort Station will be an attractive addition to the existing master plan that caters to CentrePort's tenant base and will also provide a neighborhood unique to the mid-cities market." said Bill Guthrey, senior vice president of KDC. "Our goal is to have roads complete and the hotels and retail under construction by this summer so we can move forward with the next phase."

Plans to build a 142-room Holiday Inn and a 172-room Candlewood Suites were also announced. KDC has 10 acres under contract for development of retail and restaurants. Negotiations with national retailers and restaurants are under way.

The CentrePort development was built in 1980, and is a master-planned 1,300-acre office park with 2.35 million sq.-ft. of office space. It is home to 70 companies including American Airlines' world headquarters, as well as 1,500 apartment units and the 295-room Marriott DFW South Hotel.

What is that large development on 360 right before you hit the airport. We were on our way to Grapevine this morning for church, and at the southeastern corner of the 183/360 interchange, there is a sign that says "Live, Work, Play."

Probably Centerport

Phillip
26 February 2007, 05:32 AM
Yes, Centreport. The old site of Fort Worth's former Greater Southwest International Airport. It's about time that field of grass with stunty live oak trees sees some development. That piece of land has been signed "Centreport" for as long as I can remember, which would be around 15 years, I'm guessing.

marbie98
26 February 2007, 12:09 PM
Yes, it's going to be a new part of the Centreport development.

It's slated to have a new Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Starbucks, Dickey's and some other restaurants. Something I saw online says it's supposed to be very "walkable" ... but everyone's got a different definition of that.

Centreport, itself, has been around for years. It covers several hundred acres Southeast of 183 & 360. That's where American Airlines is based, and there are tons of other companies, mostly with distribution centers, back there.

GuerillaBlack
26 February 2007, 05:25 PM
Yeah, there are huge distribution centers close to that intersection (mostly 121 and 635).

Phillip

You're confusing the two intersections. The one you were first talking about is south of the airport, in the city limits of Fort Worth. This last one you were just talking about is north of the airport, in the city limits of Grapevine. No less than 7 miles from each other.

GuerillaBlack
26 February 2007, 08:17 PM
New to the area. Sorry about that. I have seen American Airlines' HQ on the other said of 360 across from the Centreport. I haven't seen the distributions centers close to this development, but have seen the ones north of the airport close to Grapevine Mills.

Welcome to the area, GuerillaBlack! Your location says you're from Arlington. There's really no other way to get to the airport than to pass Centreport/AA each and every time! Distribution centers line 360 in Grand Prairie and throughout Centreport along Trinity Blvd and Valley View Ln. Arlington and Fort Worth residents really have no need to go north of the airport unless they want to go to Grapevine Mills or North Dallas. :)
