Anyone know why they're demolishing that AT&T parking garage next to urban market on jackson street? It'd be pretty pointless to demolish it for nothing...we've already got enough parking lots!

The talk I hear is AT&T will build some additional office space for their HQ not sure of any details let alone if its true beyond second hand info.

My understanding is they are pretty maxed out on space in their current buildings with the relocation of the corporate headquarters, I would imagine they would want to get going on additional space that they will grow into in the near future.

I hope you're right. PLEASE let it be office space and not parking.

It's so FRUSTRATING they when they already have TONS of lots around and they are demo'ing a perfectly good parking lot. I don't care if something better is going to be built on it, there are still plenty of other lots around!

Well the bright side of this is that this parking lot space will be put to better use and will love the adjacent lots available for even better use in future development of downtown. I dont think a block filled with just a parking deck is very good use either even though its better than a surface lot.

My understanding is AT&T is replacing a less than functional garage (it has no elevators) with a new parking structure.

That parking garage originally served the old Baker Hotel which was torn down for the ATT tower.

I think what we can at least hope for is that whether its more office space or just a new parking garage is that whatever they build its looks nicer than before. Considering that the Urban Market is right there it would be nice if the view was more pleasant looking and less like a dark alley.
