HOV stupidity

The folks who are crying and whining about the empty HOV lanes are the very reason these lanes were created. The self-centered, spoiled and selfish folks who insist on driving one to a car and never putting themselves out for anyone else deserve to be stuck in gridlock traffic. This overweening me-first-ism is driving our whole country down the tubes in a very ugly fashion.
I really hate the behavior of drivers in Dallas who seem to consider driving to be a competitive sport instead of a means of getting people from one place to another. When I drive the speed limit on I-20, I nearly get run over from behind. When I get to 635, the pace really picks up, with folks driving like lemmings late to the sea. I pray a lot.

The whole Dallas transportation system, with the exception of the hgh-occupancy lanes, is designed to cater to childish selfishness. Dallas is destined to remain a collection of individual egos instead of a working community. How sad.

My traffic jam solution

I drive from north Carrollton to southeast Dallas everyday for work. Many times there are accidents that have the highways totally messed up.

I propose this modest solution. Have the city of Dallas and surrounding cities where traffic is heaviest chip in for tow trucks to be positioned in strategic places of the major highways close to where most of the accidents take place. The purpose of these trucks would be to respond to an accident in minutes and, providing there are no injuries, to move any disabled car to the side of the road. They can even carry digital cameras to take snapshots of the accident before moving them for insurance purposes.

So instead of a single fender bender causing massive delays for thousands of commuters, it would only be in the way for a few minutes.

Citizens, arise!

Re: "Take back HOVs!" by Robert M. Allen, Saturday Letters.

I could not agree more. The nature of my job dictates that I travel alone, and I find it absolutely ridiculous that there are three lanes of traffic crawling at 5 mph and the HOV lane is practically empty! How much worse is smog due to this congestion?

Let me know when we take the lane back. Citizens, arise!
