I was at the Stars game last night and noticed that Elm Place was illuminated. On other occasions i've noticed it had not been lit up. Anybody have any information about when it will be illuminated or if it will be permanently? Thanks in advance.

Is that the building with the vertical white striped lighting? If it is, I can only tell you that it's illuminated only a few times a year.

If it is the building with vertical white striped lighting, then I have noticed it has been lit up many times over the pst couple of months. It sure looks great when lit up!

It sure can be bright when it's lit! Nice addition to the colorful night skyline.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't always have it lit, though.

Thanks for the information. That is the building i was talking about. I totally agree, the skyline looks so much more "alive" when that building is lit up

It is always illuminated during the Holiday Season from Thanksgiving until New Year's. It is a nice addition to the nighttime skyline of Dallas, and is unfortunate that it is only lit occasionally. I too, have noticed that they have had the lights on more often this year. When it was the tallest building in Dallas in the 1960's, the lighting really made the building stand out.

I have heard rumors that the reason they don't have the lights on continuously is that they are too expensive to run and the building does not have enough occupants to justify the expense.

Thanks, John. I, too, assumed it must be a reasonable circumstance such as that. I suppose if it had more energy-efficient (like the argon-lit giant down the road) lighting - Elm Place would leave the light on for us a bit longer! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Yes, like running them off batteries, recharged by solar panels on the roof...

I saw them, finally...very spiffy!

Those lights are so bright, they light my living room in the evening! Can you believe that? The first time I noticed them outside, I thought something was going on outside! Anyway, they are great and really light up the skyline.

Whoa! Where do you live? Downtown? Man, I wish I could! But I'm still in high school, and when I get out of college, I doubt that I'll be able to afford it.

Officially, I'm undecided about it, but I'm leaning toward the minority here. I dont think every tall building in downtown Dallas should be lit up every night of the year. Cleaver lighting is asthetically pleasing and everything, but for some reason I prefer the ramdom office lights to corporate logos and/or tubes of argon screaming 'I'm here, look at me!"

Hypocratically, I'm glad Dallas has a recognizable night time skyline. But, having downtown lit up every night seems pretentious, over-indulgent and self-serving in a way; I would save it for special occasions. Could be my reaction to negative comments from out of towners who make the point that only the landmark buildings in other cities receive such decoration. Or, maybe Dallas will one day be widely and positively regarded as a city with a dramatic night time skyline. Fountain Place would make a great Christmas tree.
