Which highway provides the best view of Downtown Dallas?
I chose 35 South into Dallas. I drive to Lewisville often and returning home to see the view of downtown is excellent.

I love coming home on 75 South into downtown, when the sun is setting and its a clear day, its just spectacular:)

35E into dallas from the south around 500pm is awsome, the sun reflects off of all the buildings

I-35 coming south and I-30. Hopefully I get the killer shot tomorrow that confirms the dominance of the I-30 view.

I agree GCarey, that would probably be my favorite view of downtown and also you get a wall-type view being surrounded by buildings lined up along the highway heading straight for the CBD.
a good distant view panorama of downtown dallas, galleria district, and las colinas is upon the highway interchange of I-90 and I-35 on the borders of Carrollton. I've been requesting a pic of this view from a few people because it is a spectacular panorama of three of the major highrise districts of the metroplex.

highway interchange of I-90 and I-35
you better go a thousand miles or so up north to find that interchange

lol, yeah. don't be ridiculous, it's only about 17 miles north of downtown. and like i said, it provides a stellar view.

I'm assuming you meant 190 and I-35.

I go over the SH-190 I-35E interchange pretty frequently.. and the view is ok: I hope you don't mean that the view of the Platinum Corridor (DNT north of I-635) or of Las Colinas (Irving) is spectacular from there: They are the buildings that don't appear to be too far off... From the highest pier, going from WB SH-190 to SB I-35E, Downtown Dallas appears pretty small and is hard to see from the car.. too small on horizon to really even pick it out, especially if you're driving (don't fly off!). The best view I've ever seen of downtown is from SB US75 around Haskell- Wow, it's beautiful there. I saw a really amazing view tonight as I was exiting off of NB I-35E, going through the interchange to WB I-20. It had just stormed, so there were storm clouds still hanging around, and the lower portion of this sky was an awesome yellow/orange. The orange was reflecting off of the buildings, making this really beautiful contrast between the deep purple of the buildings and the fiery orange reflections.. it was amazing. My favorite view of dowtown from, err, within.. is the view you get at Thanksgiving Square. absolutely spectacular.

Newly found best of all would actually be the top of the 161/190@ I-635 interchange in Irving. You can see just about every skyline in Dallas lined up across the horizon.

I love that area.. There's a part of coppell too where you're just like standin there in a parking lot and you can see all f the skyscrapers.. but I agree, that probably is the best view. Makes Dallas look like Midtown Manhattan! = D thanks rantanamo
I found another great view of the city today at lunch. It may not be news to you, but it was to me. Anyhoo, I drove through West Dallas some and crossed the Continental Avenue Bridge. It was amazing.

All of those bridges like Hampton/Inwood, Sylan etc do provide some great panoramic views. Just imagine a park lined with highrises and signature bridges in the future view.

One view that I discovered this weekend was not from a freeway, but on Military Parkway at the top of the hill just before it turns into Haskell. I had my camera with me, but didn't stop to take a picture...maybe some other weekend.

Lake June Rd as it crosses 175 is a great green view of the skyline. I guess any of the bridges over 175 give this great wooden hilly view.

I think 35 south into Dallas is the best view. You get to see Dallas on the west (along with the AA Center :)) and it's just a great view! :)

Houston Viaduct coming north from Oak Cliff into downtown is great! The older buildings lower in the foreground, with the taller newer buildings at the rear, and Reunion tower off to the side.... really a GREAT view!

Old 342(Lancaster Rd) heading north from extreme south Dallas is a very cool and un Dallas like view.

I-30 (the old Turnpike) heading into Dallas will always be my favorite highway-based view. Before the Pinnacle Park development, you had nothing but country all the way from Grand Prairie to the dramatic arching bridge at Hampton Road. Then, you went around a few curves and suddenly, the city is bearing down like the bow of the QEII -- with Reunion Tower as the figurehead on the bow. My brother-in-law from outside of Tulsa, 8 years old in the '80s, would go back home after a visit and draw the Dallas skyline from that angle from memory -- wish I had one of his old sketches.

I35E south. It really gives you that cosmopolitan feel as you go down the 10 lane freeway, with the Wynham Anatole, the oval shaped hotel (can't remember the name) World Trade Center, Marketplace, Medical Center, and the AA center. I also like the TRE and DART tracks coming along, making it look like a world class city.

I agree Sax........while heading southbound I-35, just as you're crossing over the Motor street bridge, you see those aformentioned buildings on either side of the highway, and towering behind them is the mountain range of downtown. You can only appreciate that shot for a few seconds, but I never get tired of it.

I think the DT skyline looks very nice, while traveling on I30 Westbound, from about Jim Miller on. I think it's because of the elevation at that point. The Mercantile has a very dominant presence on the skyline from that view, and the entire skyline seems larger/wider with the W Hotel as a bookend to the North.

The following camera phone picture is not the best representation of what I'm talking about but, you get the idea.

35E South into downtown is my favorite view. However, 35E North coming through Oak Cliff has all the thrills of the Titan at Six Flags. I wonder why that was built so curvy and hilly.

now I'd have to put eastbound I-30 and south on I-35E as the best with the building boom in Uptown. I think my uncle who hadn't been here in about 5 years was mightily impressed by the I-35E view. He mentioned not remembering so many buildings being there. I laughed and said, most of them weren't.

I like the view from 35E southbound around Empire Central on down to Motor....this angle allows you to see most of the larger structures downtown. Eastbound 30 on the west side of town is pretty spectacular, as well. I do not know exactly which intersection it is at, but you can see downtown, uptown and on over to Las Colinas all at the same time - very sweet!!

Id say, hands down I-30 from the east, say from Ferguson or Fair Park, especially during sunrise. The view from I-35/Stemmons is ok but the skyscrapers look a little too spaced out from there.
Wish i could get a view from I-30 from west but DART doesnt have an express bus that runs that way.
