..the interesting art piece at the southeast corner or Routh and Woodall Rodgers? It's an old silver Airstream travel trailer that an upright piano has fallen on.

Maybe I'll take a picture of it today.

Well, I saw this piece of artwork this evening. It was fairly dark so I didn't get a great look. I wonder if it will be a permanent fixture in the area.

You know, we have much more public sculpture in our center than other comparable cities do.

We even have pamphlets for self-guided walking tours of outside sculpture.

Ha ha ha h ha! Usually I hate senseless "art" and all the modern stuff, but that's not really art, it's just hilarious! I haven't seen something that funny for a long time!

Please don't "senselessly" group all modern art into one group. Just because it isn't an attempt at making a photograph doesn't mean it can't be pretty. Much of the downtown architecture is "modern stuff," too, espeically those like Fountain Place. While I agree things like "white on white" get irritating, so much of modern art conveys real imaginative beauty, serving as a window into the mind of another. It always sadens me when people fault the whole of modern art for a few stupid pieces.

You should really visit the Nasher, Urban. I think that will completely change your view of the "modern stuff."

Sorry, a bit of a rant on one of your neighborhood art boy's pet peaves.

Oh, it's cool. A lot of modern art is okay...though I think that much of it also doesn't stack up. Hey, I'm not grouping, I'm just calling it how I see it.

I do agree that "white on white" is pathetic, however. :D

I wonder what sort of statement was trying to be made with this and who the artist is.

If someone would buy this person's art, then more power to'em. It isn't about what the general public thinks of this person's art. Actually i think its garbage that the city should fine this person for.

evdallas
24 November 2003, 02:41 PM
Actually it has a permit from the city of Dallas on it.

MustangMonkey

I think they ought to be fined for dumping trash on a vancant lot.

EVDALLAS;
what kind of permit do they have?

evdallas
24 November 2003, 02:50 PM
I didn't go look closely but in the window there was a permit with the city of Dallas Emblem on it.

evdallas
24 November 2003, 02:55 PM
I think that as long as it has a permit it should be allowed to be displayed there. Why do you consider it garbage?

bloodandpopcorn
24 November 2003, 02:56 PM
Wow, the hostitility towards public art here is unsettling... Just because it isn't Renoir doesn't mean it isn't art. I think it's great that Dallas has the balls to display all kinds of art, even if its art that I don't like personally: it shows us as a diverse, open-minded city.

This is the same kind of crap they are trying to get rid of in other parts of the city.

Its like an upscale dump starter kit.

JMHO

MustangMonkey,

have you seen it in person? I'll admit when I saw the picture I was a little sceptical, but seeing it in person - it's really very cool. And it doesn not look like scrap in person to me: it definitely looks like an expensive piece of modern art. It's not a modling decaying motorhome from 60 years ago, it's a shiny interesting piece of art. 100% different from the "...crap they are trying to get rid of in other parts of the city."

I've just seen the picture

How do y'all like my turkey drawing?

Art or crap?

evdallas
24 November 2003, 03:09 PM
hum I wasn't aware they were trying to get rid of art in other parts of the city. Its not as though this person did this so they wouldn't have to take it off to a city dump, there was some sort of statement being made in my opinion. I am sure that once the permit expires it will be removed, but for the time I like it. It brings a little interest to an empty corner.

Hold your britches. I didn't know it had a permit. That's fine if it has a permit. If you can get a permit to smash a piano on an RV, then that's okay. I don't have a problem with that. Awkward, but more power to'em.

Actually I am waiting for my permit so i can put my treadmill in the middle of the High 5.

by the way, I walked up and read the permit. It was issued by the city of Dallas to the Center for Contemporary Arts, valid until the end of December.

I don't have to insert the article, but there was an article in today's paper that showed a picture of this and stated the name of this piece of junk.:D
