Gov. Rick Perry rang the closing bell Monday at the New York Stock Exchange as part of an economic development tour he's taking to "sell" Texas to corporate executives and financial journalists.
This is the first time Perry has rung the closing bell.
Perry has been involved in meetings all day in New York with the editorial boards of the Wall Street Journal, Fortune magazine and BusinessWeek magazine to tout Texas as a favorable climate to do business.
Gene Acuna, a spokesman for Perry, says a number of companies have decided to either relocate or expand to Texas this year. The most noteworthy example is Toyota Motor Corp., which is building an $800 million manufacturing plant in San Antonio.
While in New York, Perry will be involved in several closed-door meetings with corporate executives to make sure they consider Texas when they're planning a relocation or expansion, Acuna says.
