Barclay's in Brooklyn... (http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/06/new.york.subway.barclays/index.html)
And this:
The Cleveland Bus System sold station names to two hospitals for $1.1 million a year.
Will we see this happen with DART?

I think that i will be a while before this happens with DART. All of the stations that would be attractive for this kind of deal already have the names of the development on them (Mockingbird Station, Cityplace, Park Lane, Victory) or of the largest attraction (Fair Park, Dallas Zoo, White Rock, West End). Besides that, I don't think that DART's ridership numbers are anywhere near large enough to warrant any substantial price.

DART staff recommends renaming three light rail stations

Apparently one name for each station isn't enough for DART and some of its partners in the cities of Dallas and Irving. The staff, acting on requests by the cities and the Dallas Arts District, will urge DART's board to consider changing the names of three of its light rail stations today.
The City of Dallas wants Cityplace Station to be remained Cityplace/Uptown Station. The Dallas Arts District wants Pearl Station to be renamed "Pearl/Arts District Station." And the city of Irving wants South Irving Station to be renamed Downtown Irving/Heritage Crossing Station."
...
The requesting parties will have to cover the cost of renaming the stations, according to DART policy.

Why Pearl and not St. Paul as the "/Arts District Station"? I assumed the streetcar extension would include a stop at Harwood and Federal, which is closer to a DART station (i.e. shorter transfer) than a stop at Olive and Federal.

The art side of the Arts District is closer to St. Paul. All the performance venues are east of Pearl Street and closer to Pearl.

the uptown/cityplace station is something that needs to be done, the irving station isn't open yet so that shouldn't be a problem, and the arts district...i'm not so sure about that. They could put a new station near where the train comes out of the tunnel, which is actually close to the arts district (why didn't they do that to begin with?)

Everytime this is brought up here on the forum the same answer gets thrown around (even before the green line's wye was built): there isn't enough level track between Good Latimer Expressway and the tunnel for a station on the north side of the wye.

Agree about Cityplace/Uptown; that's practically a no-brainer.
I think they're talking about the South Irving TRE station, which does exist. It is in "Downtown Irving" and "Heritage Crossing" has a more postive sound, so I could see the value of the name change.
As for the "Arts District" station, I'm just glad that one of the stops gets the moniker. It'll serve as a "guidepost" for tourists and unfamiliar locals, which is probably the idea. Folks familiar with the area will stop wherever it's most convenient for them. It's fairly common on metro systems to have a single feature served by more than one stop, though only one carries the "name." I'm not too worried about which one it is. (As an aside, I've made the walk from the Pearl Station all the way to One Arts Plaza, and it wasn't bad at all.)

Agree about South Irving. I think Richardson should push for a name change for the Galatyn station. Eisemann Station? Wildflower Station? Telecom Station? A combo of them perhaps?

I think that the Telecom Station fits perfectly. South Irving should be changed to Riverside (Riverside Dr) or Lake Carolyn, despite being a few blocks away.

I suppose that Pearl/Arts District will make better sense if the Spire project gets started and includes a good pedestrian connection to Ross.

Considering the costs to change the signs on every train, I'm strongly against it. Unless the developer or city seeking the name change is willing to pay all the costs associated with it, plus pay extra for the naming rights.
Is the Arts District willing to pay DART all the costs associated with a name change? If not, don't waste DART taxpayers money. That money should be spent providing transportation services.
DART spent time and money deciding the existing names of stations. I'm not aware of any changes to date - and I don't consider Cityplace light rail station has been changed, as much as I consider the MATA streetcar has named their newly built station.
While it's true that the Love Field designator switched from Burbank to Inwood, that was done before the line opened while DART was constructing the line.

Aren't all the maps, guides, etc. going to change with expansion of orange and blue lines? DART is going to be in all those venues, including signs on trains. Only incremental cost is the physical placard for the 3 stations.

Why not sell all of the stops as naming rights to the highest bidder.

^^ Indeed, all this is timed close to an upcoming periodic or required map/signage/etc. update. The name changes have been in the works for at least the last 3 months from what I understand, give or take.

Yes. It's in the article that was posted to resurrect this thread.

I understand why the Baylor Medical Center Station is named the way it is. However isn't that station really closer to Deep Ellum than the Deep Ellum Station is? Of course if the Baylor Medical Center Station was renamed to the "Deep Ellum/Baylor Medical Center Station" I don't know what the current Deep Ellum Station would be called

I like Good Latimer. "Gaston Station" makes me think it's across the street from Lakewood Country Club.
